Trump is making military blunder 101 of threatening the people, the very civilization of Iran and not just the 'regime' and history has taught us that nothing unites a population more than doing that. Even when the population is completely at odds with their regime and wants them gone they unite in an 'enemy of my enemy' existential war for their own survival.
Of course Trump is an idiot as are all those around him and who support him so this should surprise no one.
