Is free will a myth?

Can you believe that there are actually idiots who believe this? I can prove that they are wrong. If I take a sledgehammer and destroy their car, they will get mad at me. Think about that.

When it comes to Free Will, I always defer to Neil Peart of Rush..

"Free Will"
Rush
Music: Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson
Lyrics: Neil Peart

There are those who think that life
Has nothing left to chance
With a host of holy horrors
To direct our aimless dance

A planet of playthings
We dance on the strings
Of powers we cannot perceive
“The stars aren’t aligned –
Or the gods are malign”
Blame is better to give than receive

You can choose a ready guide
In some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide
You still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears
And kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that’s clear
I will choose free will.

There are those who think that
They were dealt a losing hand
The cards were stacked against them
They weren’t born in Lotus-Land.

All pre-ordained
A prisoner in chains
A victim of venomous fate
Kicked in the face
You can’t pray for a place
In Heaven’s unearthly estate

Each of us
A cell of awareness
Imperfect and incomplete
Genetic blends
With uncertain ends
On a fortune hunt
That’s far too fleet…

Nope, free will is not a myth.

That is, unless you believe in an omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, omnibenevolent god. Then, free will is a bullshit copout for the existence of evil.

Since a liberal man typically drives a Prius, you would be doing him a favor.

Huh? Isn’t it using your free will to make the choice? If God truly gave us free will to decide, why will he punish us for using our free will?

I didnt give my children free will when it came to my rules. Their was no choice, they knew the rules, if they broke the rules there were consequences. I didn’t tell them, it’s your choice. I told them my rules and they complied or there was punishment. This idea we are free to choose and have free will given by the Biblical god is bogus.

Because good choices have good consequences and negative choices have negative consequences; plus even you admitted this and explained why there are punishments.

Did your children have free will to either follow your dictates or to not follow them??

God has also told us his rules. :good4u:

Years of psychotherapy unraveling the twisted knot of personality MIGHT result in someone living by free will.

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then He is not omnipotent.
Is He able, but not willing? Then He is malevolent.
Is He both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is He neither able nor willing? Then why call Him God?

1 - Free will of the individual
2 - Free will of the individual
3 - Free will of the individual
4 - Free will of the individual

Positive choices have positive consequences
and
Negative choices have negative consequences

What's going on here is that those who reject God are desperately trying to come up with an excuse for exercising their free will and rejecting God. Well. God ain't buying it. You've made your choice and you will pay the price. That's the truth.

What People have to believe in is that the four-limbs, two-armed, one head, two leg, living creature is the Highest biological form ---and that God is the originating source of Personhood.

When you are saying "God" you are actually arguing about Personhood...And how that Personhood that might or might NOT be considered the Apex of existence.

We are non-material souls in a material world of material Personhood, where we wonder if their is a supreme non-material Person.

And you are absolutely correct, in my opinion.

Someone doing the wrong thing, for the right reason, can be and is subjective; but denying God is their free will and looking surprised, that millisecond after leaving this plane, is just a little late.

Having doubts is human nature and sometimes even believers have doubts; but totally denying is another situation.

And no, I don't believe in death bed absolution.
