Is the Civil Rights movement what turned the South Republican for 50 years..

the republicans that the southerners voted for and that got into office as a result of those votes had not BEEN in office before. And if you think it is logical to assume that southern racists stop being racists upon the passage of a piece of legislation, you are even more stupid than I ever thought you could be.

Please. As if southerners are any more racist than northerners. Southerners are just more willing to discuss the subject openly than northerners.

Northerners will constantly "tsk tsk" on the subject... until you try busing black kids into their neighborhood schools.

Or worse, blacks move into white neighborhoods.

Go down south and it is commonplace to see blacks and whites living alongside each other peacefully. Not nearly as much as of the neighborhood segregation found all over the north.

Here's a northern neighborhood I grew up near. Watch:

????.....and has it not occurred to you that the southern racists DIDN'T stop being racist and kept on voting for the racist Democrats......while the southern democrats that were disgusted with the position the Democratic Party took on race left the party and started voting Republican instead?.........

that's one way to spin it. ALL those votes that kept the Jim Crow folks in power for all those years just all of a sudden became colorblind, bigotry hating, kumbaya singing republicans in the blink of an eye. Whoda thunk it?

and again... the racist democrats who changed to republicans are not elected officials, they are the electorate. And their existence is self evident in the fact that the south used to be solid blue and now it's pretty much dead red.

So... those MANY Klan members.... you gonna give me that list sometime soon or take back your silly ass claim?

So you cannot prove that all these Democrats become Republicans, we just have to take the word of a dishonest hyper partisan dunce and be done with it eh?

God you are one dumb MoFo.

so lets see if we all follow this logic.......the Southern Democrat legislators, who didn't change their party and were racists......didn't get the votes of Southerners.....who started voting for Republican legislators......who hadn't been racists and also didn't change parties.......and your "rational conclusion" from this is that therefore, Republicans must be racists.........seems to me the rational conclusion would be that Southern Democrats who weren't racists stopped voting for the racist Democrats and started voting for the non-racist Republicans.......

Stunning isn't it?

????.....and has it not occurred to you that the southern racists DIDN'T stop being racist and kept on voting for the racist Democrats......while the southern democrats that were disgusted with the position the Democratic Party took on race left the party and started voting Republican instead?.........

The majority of the Southern Democrats pre Civil rights movement were racist. That's why the majorities were almost always in the Democrat camp. That majority left the Democratic party, and after that the republicans mostly got that majority.

They never left the Democrat Party. Please post a credible study that shows these Democrats left the party. Racists didn't join the Republican Party; they stayed within the Democrat Party.

Why do you people insist on re-inventing history? Because then it might fit your dimwitted narrative about Republicans being the party of racist fat white rich people?

Damn you people are not merely dishonest, but painfully stupid as well.

So, overnight, the racist majority simply vanished, became progressives and started voting Republican? It was just co-incidence that it occurred at the same time as the Democrats supported desegregation?

not at all......the Jim Crow folks kept on voting for the racist Democrats, but....because there were fewer of them Republicans took office......then, after a while, blacks started putting forward candidates under the name of the Democratic Party (because of the disappearance of white Democrats) and they got elected to local office......eventually, the white liberals in New England noticed and started making plans to, in MM's words, "own the black vote".......

and when the ones who objected to the racism evident in the DP in the 60s started voting for Republicans the racist southern Democrats were no longer a majority.....

Total Bullshit.

I knew many of my racist grandparents friends... They thought I was insane for voting Democrat in the 1990's. They had been Democrats but Johnson pushed them over to the Republicans.

no....the Democratic majority disappeared because a portion of voters stopped voting for the party of obvious racism....it did not happen when Democrats supported desegregation......it started because Democrats opposed desegregation....

I'm sorry you were raised by racists......but take heart, many people have been known to overcome their upbringing, even late in life.....

Strawmen don't make your dishonest posts look less dishonest dunce. What part of "they never left the Democratic Party" do you not comprehend? They didn’t vanish, nor did they change their party affiliation. Of course no one ever accused you of being honest.

It was just co-incidence that it occurred at the same time as the Democrats supported desegregation?

It didn't occur at the same time. But you are welcome to try to make that claim and support it. Democrats were LESS likely to support it than Republicans. Democrats were also part and party to the KKK efforts to intimidate blacks, prevent them from voting and engage in Jim Crow laws up to 1965 when the Voting Rights legislation, also immensely popular among Republicans, were enacted.

Here are some inconvenient facts for you and the dunces making these mythical claims about the disappearance of Democrats in the South:

First Republican Governor of Georgia was elected in 2003. Up until then, they were ALL Democrats.

First Republican Governor of Mississippi was elected in 1992. Up until then, they were ALL Democrats.

First Republican Governor of Tennessee was elected in 1975. Up until then, they were ALL Democrats. Then it alternated nearly every 8 years between Democrat and Republican.

First Republican Governor of Alabama was elected in 1993. Up until then, they were ALL Democrats.

First Republican Governor of Louisiana was elected in 1980. Up until then, they were ALL Democrats.

First Republican Governor of Florida was elected in 1967 for four short years. Up until then, they were ALL Democrats. Then Democrats ruled another 16 years.

First Republican Governor of South Carolina was elected in 1975. Up until then, they were ALL Democrats. Then it alternated between Democrat and Republican.

First Republican Governor of North Carolina was elected in 1973 for four short years. Up until then, they were ALL Democrats. Democrats since then have been Governor for 28 of the next 36 years after that.

First Republican Governor of Virginia was elected in 1970 and alternates about every 8 years. Up until then, they were ALL Democrats.

First Republican Governor of Arkansas was elected in 1967 for four short years. Up until then, they were ALL Democrats. Then the Democrats controlled for 34 of the 42 subsequent years.

Are you seeing a pattern yet? The Congress and Senate have similar histories with Democrats dominating it for nearly five decades.
Therefore, one can surmise that this fiction you are attempting to use to rationalize black voting patterns and false claims of Republicans playing to racists is typical of the false narrative of dishonest Democrats who cannot win elections without the false narratives and lies to mask their ideological failures.

Anecdotal bullshit doesn't make your false claims look less dishonest.

But I find the dimwitted premise fascinating; Republicans overwhelmingly supported the Civil Rights Act and Voters Right Act of 1965: THEREFORE, racists Democrats fed up with their party for their TEPID support of it went over to the party that embraced racial equality.

Fascinating myth; but simply too stupid for words.

That trend proves my point.
