Is the United States of America a republic or a democracy?

Lots of real nasty people on this board. I have never seen such language on any other forum.

The only thing you can't say is stuff with a poster being a pedophile. I have seen discussions started with the n word removed though. I hear this place gets occasional overflow from Stormfront. So expect some white nationalist trolls around here. Facebook bans them, but this place is regulated by posters. You'll notice the staff around in discussions. I know of 5 of them. One of them enjoys trolling.

Stormfront huh.. That would explain a lot.

Why when asked what type of government was created did Ben Franklin say "a republic, if you can keep it"?

Because they feared it would "deteriorate" into a democracy.

Mason: “It would be as unnatural ... to let the people choose the president as it would be to refer a trial of colors to a blind man.”

Hamilton: “The voice of the people has been said to be the voice of God; and however generally this maxim has been quoted and believed, it is not true in fact. The people are turbulent and changing; they seldom judge right.”

I use a bit of profanity when dealing with obnoxious people, but I try hard to be nice. It's hard to here though, and I usually I just use memes to tell disgusting individuals off. The racist/sexist troll, Text drivers are killers, can't stand micro penis comments, and got several people giving them to him, by his cranky response to one. Other than Desh and this OP I'm not heard anyone argue over whether we are a republic or a democracy and claim it's means something when it comes to policy etc.

So I guess I was asking if only right wingers supposedly claim we are a republic is that what Franklin was based on his response?

In the U. S. policy is more limited by constitutional restraints than, for example, European democracies where majority rule governs. I don't think Great Britain can pass an unconstitutional law (although restrained by certain traditions).

I don't understand your second sentence about Franklin.

The US is a plutocracy, run for and by the extremely rich.

Those plutocrats are a liberal bunch--they pay 80% of taxes, pass laws providing minimum wage, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, welfare, food stamps, housing, college loans and grants, health and safety legislation, environmental laws, civil rights for minorities and gays, public education, health care.............

And from whom do they get the money - Father Christmas or the Archangel Gabriel? They pay just as little as they possibly can to keep the mugs fooled into doing all the work, as you very well know,

By investing and selling products and services people want. They don't force anybody to give them their money just like you don't force your employer to pay you for your work--you obviously do something he values. Everybody pays as little as they possibly can, but if I was a plutocrat controlling America I would probably make everybody pay the same percent in income--I would not prefer a system where the top 50% pays 96% of all federal income taxes and the bottom 40% pays virtually no income tax. So, either the plutocrats do not control as much as you think or they are very benevolent in all the social programs and services they provide to the middle and lower classes. After all, the plutocrat Bernie Sanders wanted higher taxes on his rich friends and to give the public free tuition.

FYI only Michael is a Archangel.

I guess the answer is Father Christmas.

i.e by flogging other people's work to make money. They do nothing for anyone and make us pay for it, as you know.
