A CNN.com email response I thought some would find amusing and sad.

Why not give him a chance to play again? Seriously how many chances has the NFL given to Ricky Williams? Smoking pot is against the law, but he's been given a number of chances, and STILL isn't banned from the NFL!

By the way, the statement is inaccurate. I saw Ricky Williams play in Canada, and it's because he couldn't play in the NFL.

Williams is playing in Canada because he was banned from the NFL for a year.

Williams never went to jail for his crime, he also never tortured and killed living creatures for sick pleasure after they underperformed in a death battle.

How would you like to have Vick as your coach ? would he kill or torture the underperforming players ?

Vick should be given at least five years in jail and banned from the NFL for life. No question.

thats exactly what i was thinking... 1.5 years if that is hardly enough since those who commit crimes against animals are 5x more likely to commit crimes against humans... and these were nothing short of barbaric crimes.

I have yet to see the evidence against him. so I withhold judgement.

Ummm... the evidence is in his guilty plea. We are not going to see the details because he copped to a plea agreement. He participated in dog fighting and helped to brutalize and kill dogs he didn't find acceptable.

Just so you know, very rarely if at all do the dogs die in the pit. Also very few fighters EVER kill the underperforming dogs. I take no pride in admitting that in my younger days I participated in dog fighting, primarily as a voyeur and sometimes bettor. When the dogs fight the fight they fight till one turns his back on the other dog or quits fighting. The dogs are then separated and taken to their individual sides of the pit. The dog that turned or quit fighting is then let loose and if he crosses the middle of the pit then other dog is turned loose and the fight continues. If the dog refuses to cross the pit to go at the other dog the fight is ended and the dog that stopped loses and both animals go home. I am not going to lie and tell you that the dogs are not hurt and bleeding and end up horribly scarred, but in a great many instances the fighting dog is also a pet and the person that owns the dog has an attachment to his or her (yes women participate as well) animal. In the rare cases that I ever saw a dog mortally wounded the dog was put down humanely. On several occasions I attended fights with registered vets in attendance who were paid to be there or who had dogs in the fight.

There is a very good book by Richard F. Stratton called The Book of the American Pit Bull Terrier. It goes into great detail about the breed. The one drawback about the book is that it pro fighting. But his detailed history tells you how the dog came about and how the myths of it being a man eater or human agressive are just that Myths.

he'll get 2yrs or less and get out in one. He'll be banned for another year but shouldn't have his job taken away after he does his time.
And this from a saints fan!!!
