Jena 6

Well said.

I knew something about dealing with criminals, in my city. We found that nightsticks up the ass, or a hail of lead bullets would generally keep these uppity types in their place.

Cheers,

Rudy.

LOL

I suspect who this is, but I don't know for sure.

So some white kids hung some nooses in a tree and three months later 6 black kids beat up a white kid that may or may not have been responsible for the nooses. Yes, we need to protect minority rights so they may conduct their beatings unfettered.

Fight the man!!!

Hmm .. you failed to mention the beatings of the black students and perhaps the threat of hanging nooses is no big deal to you .. but this is about far more than one white student getting beat up.

For one student, DW. Not all of them. And this was only because the DA hedged his bets on getting a minor charged as an adult and failed. It's like a game to him. Does he have his eyes on the governers office, and beleives that a "tough on crime" look will appeal to ignorant voters?

In my opinion they should all be released. They are not guilty of attempted murder, as none of them attempted to kill the student. Trying them again would be double jeopardy, but this is the DA's fault. The DA should then have his law license stripped.

Watermark?

I guess this is really the non-offensive version.

I agree with you.

The kid that they beat was well enough to attend an event that very evening.

It happened at school.

Does anyone know of any white person being charged as an adult, with attempted murder, carrying 15 years in prison, for a school yard fight of any kind?

There have been several fights between black and white students since the noose incident, including where multiple whites attacked a single black student. Who believes that any of the white students would get the same charges?

I agree with you.

Bottom Line.............

The six committed 'aggravated assault and battery'...which is the real issue..prosecutors always add more charges so litigation can commense!
I would suspect all charges would be lowered to 'Assault and Battery' in the end...as for the 'hanging nooses' on the tree...this was obnoxious to say the least..but no statues are on the books in this state for such...and this did not give the suspects the right to committ 'Assault and Battery' end of story!

Wow, I've just started recently hearing about this. Its got all the elements of the classic story of the south, racial injustice, and fairness. The first I heard of it, was that some black kids beat up a white kid. And I thought, well that was a punk thing to do - they should be prosecuted. But, then I read deeper, and its a lot more complex, like most things in life are.

Story of the south, my ass. NY Draft riots, Zoot Suit Riot of LA, Boston Riot over Busing, the harsh anti-Chinese laws of SF and Cali... Plenty of ugliness on race to spread around.

My bad. I thought nooses hanging from trees and lynchings were associated largely with the south.

Thanks to selective memories many pretend that only the south has had race issues. I gave a short list of some of the uglier examples of the "progressive" areas. The NY draft riots were as ugly as Rosewood if not more. But there is this pretense that it's a southern thing.

Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.

Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.

One of the first anti-racism songs in America, sung by Billie Holliday.

A rare clip of her singing Strange Fruit.

I think we can all accept the fact that the south has a terrible history with race relation, RS. The only places in the south that seem to have been changed are those who have a lot of intra-state migration, and a lot of people from other places to influence the attitude. I'm pretty proud to state that my part of Mississippi has never been very racist. We even had a county down here, Jones county, succeed from the confederacy during the civil war. Florida? Goddamit, RS. Florida is the north.
