Joel Osteen's Houston Megachurch Blasted For Closing As Thousands Are Displaced

I mentioned before I was on a conservative board last night and there was a lot of bashing of Olsteen. A number of people calling him a huckster and other things. I know he's not my cup of tea but for supporters is he considered a conservative Christian?

As a conservative Catholic myself, I would refer to him as "Christian-lite". I'm not going to knock him for bringing anyone to The Light, even if it's "lite".

As far as I know there is no tithing (nor is there in the Catholic Church); he breaks even with the church and the $15 admission ticket; has become wealthy with book sales.

Good for him I say, and good for his flock.

It's Osteen. I do the same thing because the L in Joel wants to linger on the tongue and run into the Osteen lol.

To my understanding Osteen isn't well regarded amongst conservative Christians because his message is a little watered down for their tastes. You'd think liberals would accept him for that, but they loathe him.

Not following. Lakewood Church does or does not own the building?

Lakewood Church relocated to the Compaq Center on July 16, 2005. It is a 16,800-seat facility in southwest downtown Houston along U.S. Highway 59, that has twice the capacity of its former sanctuary.[3][9] The church was required to pay $11.8 million in rent in advance for the first 30 years of the lease.[8] Lakewood renovated the new campus at an estimated cost of $100 million.[5]

On March 31, 2010, the Houston City Council voted 13–2 to sell the property to Lakewood for $7.5 million.[10]~Wiki

I work in real estate, have read that twice and still confused by what's the fake news. Everything I've read says they own the center but you're saying they don't?

So much for christian values?!! Love thy neighbor???

I know, the concept is a bit difficult to understand. Christians, as are all human beings, are full of flaws and in need of forgiveness and redemption. That is why Christ died for us; not of the perfect, but for the sinners,
Osteen included.
As far as he is concerned, he is a charlatan indeed, wrapped up as christian. So please try understanding the difference.
Now carry on.

The ownership issue is a non-starter, anyway.

There are pictures of Lakewood Church which shows the building at least partially flooded. Is that good enough reason?

I'm just trying to understand out of personal real estate interest if he owns or not?

I won't argue the last part lol.

But Osteen initially leased the property and ended up buying it off the city. So the call was his to make.

His FB page clearly shows at least part of the building is flooded so I don't question the call.
The parking area was flooded, nothing else. He is just not Christlike. They are now opening it after a barrage of complaints.

Are you claiming the flooded interior pics are fake?
Yes, I saw pics that show pics inside where they have now lined up air mattresses and pics outside of their building. No water. Witnesses reported their parking area was flooded, it the main portion of the building was fine!

Totally untrustworthy on hot-button topics.

But Wiki is fairly reliable for mundane facts. I see no reason to dispute it.

Totally unreliable with anything remotely political, which this has been made out to be, since anonymous lib "authors" have plenty of time on their hands, unemployable after getting a BA degree in lesbian dance theory.
