You're not following the John Deere strike. A new contract will end 72 hour work weeks and countless 10 hour days without a day off. That forces Deere to hire more employees which they refuse to do because they don't want to pay for benefits like insurance and retirement.

The correct and traditional way of getting more pay was either an education in a higher institution of learning or learning a skill that was in high demand. Having Government arbitrarily set wage rates does NOTHING other than make excuses for doing nothing for yourself and increasing the cost of everything thus negating any temporary effects the increase demand had.
