Lefty attack on Roseanne

You should start a thread about this

Archie Bunker is very old news.
Back in the day racists showed that they didn't care that O'Conner was satirizing their stupidity, they were so giddy to hear anyone saying the stupid racist things they said in private, that they loved him.
Roseanne thinks she could be another Carroll O'Connor, but I'm afraid she really doesn't have the chops.

Hello smb,

I am still waiting for the right to remember that they hated her when she disrespected the flag, nation and national anthem in San Diego. I am still wondering when the right is going to remember that they hated her when she celebrated looting during the L.A. riots on her show.

Excellent point.

I don't watch much broadcast TV. I find a lot of it to be boring, mindless, cheap and predictable. I won't be watching Roseanne.

I never did watch her show. Back when it first aired I was not into politics. I did watch more TV then, but the show didn't interest me. Then, after the Star Spangled Banner incident, I made it a point to have nothing to do with her ever. I can't flip the channel fast enough if the show appears.

The fact that she is so rudely outspoken, and for Trump, explains why so many Trump supporters and Roseanne audience members are deplorable people who live their sad lives in a world of insults and one-upmanship; as if they cannot speak intelligently to a subject. Those who are arguing weak positions, or simply inept at debating, are the first to pull the insult cord. For them, the ultimate goal is to make a clever wise crack insult of an individual who holds an opposing view. No actual comment on the issue is required. When I think of the spirit and popularity of this TV show, it causes me to question why we are not doing more to improve education.

I watched the first two shows. They ran consecutively. I won't be returning. I found them not to be challenging, not to be funny, and trying to hard to be everything to everyone -- The same thing that brought down 2 1/2 men.

From what I garner, anyone on the right who says fake things and are criticized for it or who comment on it are considered an "attack." But fake web sites posing as "news" and fake conspiracy theories from about the left -- well that's fair game?

Here's what CNN said about Rosanne: https://www.cnn.com/2018/03/30/opin...-barr-of-course-he-does-obeidallah/index.html

"Barr has repeatedly shared inflammatory views about Muslims. One of her retweets equated Islam with Nazism, saying both want "world domination" and the "destruction of all Jews," according to an account last year in the Daily Beast. (Some of the tweets have since been deleted, but screengrabs can be found on several news sites.) Barr has also tweeted about what she calls "Islamic rape pedo culture," and retweeted memes that gin up fear of Muslims.

"Like Trump, Barr has also used Twitter to viciously go after those she perceives as enemies, even if the allegations aren't true. For example, Barr tweeted in 2016 that then-Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin, who is Muslim and at the time was married to Anthony Weiner, was a "Jew hater," adding, "hillary clinton's handler huma weiner is a filthy nazi whore."

"And Barr, like Trump, shares an affinity for the conspiracy-loving Alex Jones -- the man who claimed that the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre, which left 20 school children dead, was a "hoax."

"Barr also appeared on Jones' show, and has shared tweets from his Infowars website, including retweeting his claim that "5.7 million illegals" voted in the 2016 presidential election -- her apparent effort to explain why Trump lost the popular vote.

"The "Roseanne" star has also been accused of spewing transphobic comments on Twitter. Even Barr's recent responses to charges of such bigotry have a familiar Trump-like ring to them, one Americans have had to get used to over the past 13 months of this presidency. When asked by a reporter for USA today about accusations that she is transphobic or anti-Muslim, Barr responded "it's easy for people to attack." She then added, "I don't care. Just spell my name right."

But those on the alt-right, the purveyors of Info wars, Daily Caller, Hannity conspiracies, of which Fox News has had to walk back several times, and other white supremacist support, xenophobic rants, bullying, etc. fit right in with the new Rosanne. And anyone who happens to disagree are engaging in a "lefty attack."

The really amazing thing about the ratings isnt the number of viewers. It was that she was able to pull those numbers without NY and LA. That is unheard of

I think we have to wait for a few more episodes to pass judgement either way

But on s separate note, can no aspect of American life escape political fighting? For fucks sake

My teenager self laughed at the sitcom. My adult self has listened to her make an ass of herself over and over again with hateful rhetoric. I don't often equate the actor/actress with their political leanings and can enjoy their work while ignoring their political bs either way, but if you need to express yourself in hateful ways then you lose my interest in your work as well.

Nature of the beast but it helps that I don't have cable nor have I watched cable tv in a decade.

And imagine, it was one of those "MSM" that produced and broadcasted the show

Best Roseanne memory conservatives seemingly forgot

I don't think you know what the term validates means.

If anyone here has any doubt that Roseanne Barr is a hard core socialist you need to listen to this truly candid interview with her.
Most of the recent interviews she has done have featured Roseanne Conner, her TV character who is not a real person.
Roseanne Barr is Waaaaaaay left of Hillary and all but the farthest left of Socialist Democrats.

That Trump congratulated her on her show is absolutely hilarious.
In this interview she referred to him as PT Barnum on drugs.
LOL

I do not understand the connection between this and the topic of the thread. Do you think lefty attacks on Roseanne depend on sustained ratings?

You made the point about her ratings. If they are temporary, your argument evaporates. Your words "such a big hit" Who knows. It was one show.

Hello EVmetro,

Not really, if it is supposed to be on the title topic. Your post however, validates the opening post.

The opening post is neither clever nor accurate. It is to be expected that if insulting material is aired there will be a response. Predicting the response is like saying that if you pick a fight with a bear you stand a good chance of getting mauled.

Hello and greetings Gotcha68,

Admirable that you refuse to buy into the cable cabal.

I fired the cable company decades ago. I reasoned at the time that there had to be a better life than subjecting myself to such drivel. Sure, there is some good content, but there was so much drivel it was an easy decision. I think I missed having cable a total of 4-5 times after decades without it. Just not worth it.

All in the Family was a big hit for many years. Bunker was a proud bigot and hater. Barr is not new. Bigots watch her and applaud her hate. Liberals like to hear what haters say and think. Barr was a very good standup who can deliver lines quite well. She has a good sense of humor and apparently has not lost her affinity with the poor. She can articulate their fears and beliefs.

That is why I don't like sitcoms. they all have rude impolite jabs and putdowns at each other. It all came from the Irrepressible Ricky. Rickey Nelson was the first lippy kid on TV sitcoms and we have all been paying for it since. If Ozzie would have backhanded Ricky, the world would be a nicer place. And compared to todays standards, he was not a problem at all.
