Legislating morality

Where did you get the impression our chats make me sad? I'd hardly engage you unless I found enjoyment in so doing, would I?

It would be indeed sad if a retired officer of the United States Navy had acted in a manner unbecoming by knowingly violating the law, wouldn't it, Commander?

It would seem that you thought it would make SOMEBODY sad, I guess it could be the mouse in your pocket..... it certainly isn't ME, that's for sure!

so it wouldn't be sad? I'm certainly not sad... and, apparently, neither are you. that's great. I wouldn't want anyone to be sad.

It would be a sad day for the honor of the United States Navy if a relatively high-ranking officer knowingly engaged in illegal and/or unethical behavior, wouldn't it?

If you add... "in any demonstrable and significant or substantial way." I would agree with that statement.

The Problem is that social conservatives keep using the argument that "it is destructive to society." or some such nonsense, and try to tell gays they cant get married or tell people how they must live their lives.

The social conservative argument is, at least, honest. More based on conservative as an tendency, as opposed to a partisan orientation. The reason you haven't seen conservatism being especially reformist is that it sticks to comfortable, existing practices, rather than venturing into new territory,
