Defend what? What word games? The sentence is right there! "A leading expert on racism in children’s literature has said the decision by the Dr Seuss Foundation to withdraw six books should be viewed as a “product recall” and not, as many claim, an example of cancel culture."

They said it should be VIEWED as a "product recall", NOT an example of cancel culture.

Do you even know what word "recall" means? It means asking for their products to be returned.

Are you even telling me that publishers should continue to print ALL books, no matter what, because fuck them? Is that the route you want to go?

You're a fucking idiot.

Shut the fuck up.

Back in the 30's/40's certain imagery was acceptable. Caricatures of Asians were all the rage after Pearl Harbor. Same for Germans and any other nations we went to war against. Same for any person of color.

The publishers made a decision based on current attitudes. These books are still out there by the thousands.

IOW they are pandering to the current cause célèbre du jour.

Current attitudes dictate that people get their feelings hurt over every little thing they can conjure up a reason to.

How much farther will it go?

How absurd will it get?

Where does it end?

If you check some of the links, a lot of his stuff was pretty bad.

Acceptable back then in society. Not today. We don't call Germans 'Krauts', we don't call Asians 'Orientals', etc..

I don't think his most graphic stuff made it into children's books, but some of his illustrations were offensive by today's standards.

This isn't about hurt feelings. It's about marketing to as wide a swath of the nation as possible. It was a business decision.

Not unlike those corporations who won't touch trump or his fellow terrorists with a ten foot pole anymore.
