That's a diversion anyway. The point I was making is that anyone can say they are for protecting "civil liberties" and "economic freedom". It doesn't mean anything to me. Saying those things may make some kids swoon at a college libertarian meeting, but I guarantee you if you sat Dick Cheney down for an interview, he would claim his is strong for defending civil liberties. Everyone says that. Its a buzzword, its meaningless.
What matters is what you're DOING about it. Do you defend the adminstrations warrantless wiretapping, or not? Do you defend "free speech zones" or not? Do you believe in aggressive enforcement of voting rights laws, or not? Did you oppose the 1960s civil rights legislation or not?
These are the only metrics I can use, to ascertain if someone is strong on "civil liberties"
