He lies so often he gets sloppy. He thinks his cult will believe ANYTHING. The most closed-minded of them will. They will never believe anything bad about Trump, even if it comes directly from Trump. They always have a way to justify their beliefs. If a way doesn't easily exist, they will go for whatever is the most far-fetched stretch is and go with that.
BUT! The supporters who don't like him, THEY have a limit to what they will accept. They are not cult members. Some of them are military people. They are simply partisans looking for a way to justify supporting the Republican. And it's getting harder and harder for them. Trump is losing some of them. The polls are showing it.

Who else would say McCain is not a hero because he got caught? Trump exists outside the norms of Americans. He says such horrible things, undiplomatic and often cruel things. C'mon rightys, you made a guy with frayed wiring the most powerful man on the planet. Let him go back to TV, where he belongs. He has given incredibly disjointed and confused talks that should give pause to all.
Rightys are now twisting themselves into knots trying to protect another insane Trump statement. Just accept it, you do not care what he says or does. You are backing him until the end, whether he lies, cheats or loots.

Makes sense if he thinks everybody who does pay taxes is a sucker.
What if everybody was like HIM?

Well, we know what would happen in that case.
The country would go bankrupt.
All he wants to do is borrow and spend.
He never wants to pay.

Reality being, of course, that the only thing that makes borrowing and spending POSSIBLE is paying.
