Satanic Temple launching program at Marysville elementary school, countering Christian programming

The Satanic Temple will launch its own religious release program at Edgewood Elementary in the Marysville Schools district as a counter to LifeWise Academy, which currently offers religious educational programming in the district.

The Salem, Massachusetts-based Satanic Temple first announced the program in a Nov. 23 Facebook post and spoke to WOSU on Wednesday.

Satanic Temple representative June Everett said the Hellions Academy for Independent Learning, or HAIL program, aligns with the organization's beliefs called the "7 tenets."

Everett said the Satanic Temple has been launching the program during school time in response to LifeWise Academy doing the same thing.

"We really we are no fan of it. We do believe strongly in religious pluralism and religious freedom. But we would absolutely go away if they stopped doing their program. But until they can, you know, as long as they continue to offer this to the public schools and demand that they be in the public schools, we will be there as well," Everett said.

The Satanic Temple has a history of taking similar actions when Christian groups attempt to put themselves into traditionally secular spaces.

Yeah it's called freedom and tolerance, two things leftist idiots now nothing about.

I totally see the POINT of these Satanic Temple things, they seem to be the only "activists" pushing for secularism. But I have NEVER understood the whole "Church of Satan" thing.

In order for a Satanist to even function they had to completely re-imagine what the "Concept" of Satan was. They kept all the dark and creepy and scary dressings and rituals, but they claim they are valuing "knowledge". Knowledge unencumbered by religious brakes that might be put on gaining that knowledge, yes.

What it REALLY feels like to me is a bunch of people who fancy themselves "edgelords" and want to look REALLY dark and mysterious and TOO DIFFERENT from the "squares". So they gravitate to a concept that, on it's face, is antithetical to ANYTHING anyone would EVER want and then try to figure out how they can "worship" this (or at least look like they are) without looking basically fucking insane.

I know they are all atheists and don't believe in any of the supernatural mumbo jumbo, but they choose to take the most EXTREME means of poking the religious bear. I'm not always sure that's a great approach (even though I think we all kinda veer that way from time to time)

So basically I have never understood how someone could play "satanist" with a straight face but I understand and value the role they often play in these sorts of public debates on the separation of church and state. I just wish they didn't have to be so clownish about it.

Actually it's just the opposite. The CofS has as its primary goal in these things to make an EXTREMELY UNPLEASANT alternative to the Christian stuff to make a larger point about separation of Church and State.

The whole POINT is to make the Christians so angry and uncomfortable and to get them to realize that Once you open the door to religion in the public square then you have to be prepared that it may not be YOUR FAVORITE RELIGION that winds up being out there.

NOTHING in the Constitution says separation of church and state

Students are currently, and always have been, free to pray, read the bible, discuss religion on their lunch break, at recess, or on breaks. They do not need a public employee like a teacher to lead and direct them in these activities.
Nothing prohibits it. They also don't "need" any public employee or teacher to lead and direct them in any activity

I know that's you MAGAts favorite new phrase, but there is.

It was set up primarily to protect you believers from a state religion, but it also works the other way as well.

Keep your "religion" to yourself. Don't make me worship what you worship. Don't make me spend my tax money making pretty religions things for you.

Where? Cite it.

Pledge of allegiance is archaic too.
Why are kids forced to pledge their allegiance if they’re not in the military?
That and there’s thousands of kids that are here legally but citizens of another country.

I always thought Church of Satan was a farce, and was just mostly a prop for people who wanted to seem edgy or who just wanted to express their disdain for conventional religious traditions.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion".
That's not separation of church and state. It also doesn't say teachers can't pray in school. People don't surrender their first amendment rights when they walk into a school or city hall for that matter.

Non-issue for me.
The last time I had to say pledge of allegiance was in 3rd grade in the early 1970s. I don't remember our classes ever reciting it in junior high, high school, or college.

I used to go to community council meetings. All adults.
And they did that stupid pledge thing to start those things.
I don’t go anymore. They’re a waste of time anyway.
We’d vote on a referendum to send to the city council which was meaningless and the city council paid no attention.

I❤️Irony

The 14th Amendment along with the 1st Amendment are in play here and the solution is clear: either let all religions push their agenda in public schools or don't let any of them do it. I vote for the latter option.

MAGA morons howled for a decade about keeping Sharia law out of the public sphere, but they are seemingly allowing Sharia law an opportunity to gain traction in a way it never could before

The Evangelistas pushing the MAGAt agenda are an American version of the Taliban: they want to push their religion in schools, subjugate women and minorities and seek to imprison anyone who disagrees.

If this goes too far, the Resistance will start acting more aggressively.

Figures you'd support teaching Satanism in schools, Yak. You already worship the Dark Lord through your Orange Jesus.

I'm older than you by about 10 years. I remember saying it a lot, but don't recall when it stopped. The Republicans, as part of the Red Scare, added "under God" to the pledge in 1954.
