Mamdani in the News

Mostly in "blue" cities and states, of course. California having the greatest "wealth gap" in the nation.

Of course look at Communism anywhere - you have the obscenely rich oligarchs like Gates, Buffett, and Soros, and the rest in abject poverty. The eradication of the middle class is and always has been the goal of the left.

Is that why Communism always collapses?

Yet you keep defending it.

Where have I defended Communism?

I'd be interested to see that, since I don't believe in Communism at all.

There is a level of wealth where you have the capacity to hire estate tax lawyers and all that. 750k is not it. I would imagine thats just an old lady with a small apartment in NY she saved up all her life for
Again, the tax is on second and third homes in NYC that are owned by people living outside NYC, anything but the little old lady you described. It would fit Trump perfectly, but we know Trump doesn’t pay taxes

Were talking about different things.

As I stated in my opening post this thread is about mandamis proposed changes to the estate tax.

Your talking about the pied something tax that mandami did on second or third homes for people who live in NYC.

Im not actually opposed to what mandami did in the second instance. I dont understand what the utility is in having a home in NYC or anywhere really that you keep empty just because you visit the city once a year. We already have zoom and other tech which means you dont need to do that.

Worse. The plans are for far smaller stores than normal. The crazy amount of money it costs government to do normal things is clearly prevalent here... I remember the $300 hammers. Now we have government trying to get into the grocery business and failing at the start.
There is plenty of history with Govt.-owned grocery stores to know that this will be a colossal failure.

It's the sound of tens of thousands of New Yorkers beating feet out of the Apple. New York City lost more residents than those who moved in last year, according to a new study from the Citizens’ Budget Commission released Monday. The Citizens Budget Commission reported that the city’s overall population declined in 2025.
The study explained further that the population decline is due to the 70% drop in New Yorkers moving to other areas and international migration. According to the study, “Across all income levels, more people moved out of New York City than moved in last year.”

He's put the pee-pee in the Big A'pp'le. Public urination violations are soaring across the boroughs, according to bladder-busting new data, revealing a nearly 50% increase in 9-1-1 calls related to the odorous offense since April 2025. It’s an uptick in tinkling that’s more than a wee bit alarming.
The NYPD has received over 100 more complaints about public urination in April 2026 than it did in April 2025, according to alarming new data.
Peeing in parks, walkways, roadways and on the sides of buildings is, unfortunately, hotly hip among New Yorkers this year, as law enforcement has received a staggering 316 complaints of public urination thus far in 2026, per an April 12 report from the NYPD Quality of Life Division. The number of indecent infractions is up from 214 during the same period last year - a sizable 47.7% increase.

⚠️ What is misleading or exaggerated

1. “911 calls for public urination”

  • Public urination is typically logged through 311 complaints or police summons data, not true emergency 911 calls.
  • Articles sometimes loosely describe “calls” in general, but it’s misleading to imply emergency call volume is surging.

2. “Staggering increase / soaring / alarming crisis framing”

  • While the percentage increase is real, the absolute numbers are small:
    • 316 incidents across all of NYC over months is not a large dataset for a city of ~8.5 million people.
  • So the language (“soaring,” “bladder-busting,” etc.) is editorial exaggeration.

3. “He’s put the pee-pee in the Big Apple”

  • This is pure political commentary / joke framing, not a factual statement.

4. Context missing from the claim

What the data does NOT show:

  • No evidence of a sudden collapse in public order
  • No link to a specific politician causing the increase
  • No breakdown showing whether enforcement changes (more reporting or stricter logging) influenced the numbers

Also relevant:

  • NYC has long had limited public restroom access, which contributes to these complaints structurally rather than behavior alone.

🧠 Bottom line

  • ✔️ The increase from ~214 to ~316 complaints (~48%) is likely real
  • ⚠️ The framing (“soaring crisis,” 911 emergency surge, political blame) is heavily exaggerated or misleading
  • ❌ There is no evidence supporting the political or causal claims implied in the rhetoric
