IMO it would take some unusual outside event(s) to cause it to spike that rapidly. Something like OPEC deciding to cut production in order to raise the price of crude, some outbreak of war causing a disruption in energy supplies, or a trade war.

Agreed they often resist treatment, but I don't know why. Some, it seems don't like the drugs since they are described as having a blanket over their heads. Another description is the "high" they experience in their delusions or mania is pleasurable.

There's also a stigma against those with mental struggles. And some medications, like antidepressants, cause negative side effects in other parts of life, like sexuality.
