mandating a purchase, just like Obamacare. why all the outrage now????

It's just a desperation we're seeing.

You oppose Obamacare - that's fine. But argue it on its merits & flaws. What is the conservative obsession with creating extreme scenarios and false equivalencies? Trying to compare Libya to Iraq, an equal pay measure for women w/ giving women time to go home & make dinner, the cost of buying a gun (and need for it) compared to the cost of health insurance (and need for it).

Crazy stuff.

Here's where you're lost on this. We already pay for the police & the miliary, as well as other security organizations. These are already mandated, Damo. Why are you comparing those things, when the OP is talking about mandating the price of a gun?
However the risk and cost of those who participate in the "pool" and provide a measure, responsibly, of their own security is higher and an unfair burden on those who participate in that "pool"...

We're not talking about mandating the cost of overall security. Why are you moving the goalposts in that way?
Nor are we saying that the ACA mandates the cost of all healthcare to you personally, that is where you are being deliberately dishonest intellectually. You have an incapacity to argue this honestly because you realize the merit of the intellectual argument. It does show that you aren't stupid and were capable of looking at the ACA in that different perspective, and it underlines your desperate need to defend partisan ideals even when it makes you look foolish.

Do you even understand the OP, and what is being argued? Take a few minutes, and think about it. You're wasting my time right now.
See the previous post. The only thing this does is clearly indicate you have no conscious understanding what the OP was about, or what its goal could be. (I don't believe that, I think you are consciously avoiding that you do understand what its point was, and that it was successful).

The reality is the "but this is different!" is simply a different way of saying, "Yeah, I did look at it a bit differently and disliked it so I will come up with excuses to rationalize what I have already decided."

Comparing guns to health care is so self-evidently nonsensical that only a far right wing ideologue would do anything other than laugh at it. It's like saying, hey Darla tell us why Elephants are not like vitamins. I would look at you like you were from another planet. The same expression I had on my face when I first read this.

I swear, I expect him to now argue that Elephants and vitamins are actually 2 things in the physical realm, so the comparison is basically the same.

Do I oppose Obamacare? Honestly, I don't know if I oppose the idea of people buying insurance... In fact I don't.

What I do oppose is the seemingly infinite capacity of "us" to simply bend over, grab our ankles, and let the government seize powers not relegated to it in the constitution.

HAHAHAHA, now I KNOW you've been beat by both Damo and myself by this pathetic attempt at hilarious comparisons

There's no bending over involved and in fact on some plans you have to pay extra for that sorry! I know you anti-Obama folk are obsessed with that.

It used to be the Republican plan and you know this. To me, it still is. Let's not get all crazy.

The constitutionality of Obamacare is a pretty vague topic, because there are clearly causes in the Constitution that deal with general welfare. It's all interpretation.

Would I rather not have gov't mandating insurance? Sure, in a perfect world. But we live in a world where healthcare costs have increased exponentially, millions of famiiles cannot afford insurance, and a significant # of people are ruined by the costs of healthcare.

Wow, I melted down and I didn't feel a thing! In fact I was just thinking who the hell lowered the heat in here.

I melted down, but it was only because I had a 4:00 (EST) appointment to melt down. I jumped the gun a little bit, but I was trying to keep on a schedule.

I have another meltdown later tonight, but that's only because I taped "Sons of Anarchy" and I'm sure a fave character is going to die.

At least Damo is still trying. STY bailed awhile ago, and only seems capable of saying some variation of "I won! I won!"
after the 5th or 6th time of watching you come up with a bullshit excuse to deny the truth, I get tired of you. yes, I won. you lost. it's like the wrestling a pig in mud thing.

Oh are you really into that show? I've never seen it. I am hooked on Homeland big time right now, and for some reason, Grimm. I love Grimm. Maybe I should check out Sons of Anarchy though. We usually have similar taste in that stuff if I remember.

My favorite shows are the 3 most violent on TV - Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad & Walking Dead. I always find that interesting, since I'm not a violent person. Love Mad Men, too, but that hasn't really been violent. I heard Homeland is fantastic. I'll have to rent.

You definitely have to netflix or hulu or whatever it is you do, Homeland. I bet you will love it. Walking Dead has been awesome this season!

I hated that then too. Just as much as I hate wireless wiretapping, even when a republican is in the WH. Just like I hated holding people indefinitely without counsel as "combatants", even before US citizens could be held like that. We can go on, but let's not "get all crazy".
