McCains Short list for VP:

Chapdog

Abreast of the situations
Charlie Crist
Bobby Jindal
Mitt Romney
Joe Lieberman
Lindsey Graham

CLEVELAND (AP) - The Memorial Day guest list at Sen. John McCain's Arizona home runs to at least three Republicans mentioned as vice presidential running mates, but a top aide said Wednesday that vetting possible veeps is not on the agenda.

"It's purely social," said Mark Salter, a senior adviser to McCain.

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney were all invited to a Memorial Day gathering at the senator's home in Sedona, Ariz. Romney ran for the Republican presidential nomination in last winter's primaries, but dropped out months ago and has endorsed McCain.

Ten couples in all were invited. McCain often hosts friends and political acquaintances at his compound.

McCain said more than a month ago that he was in the "embryonic stages" of selecting a running mate for the fall campaign, but neither he nor aides have disclosed additional information in the weeks since.

It will be the first visit to Sedona, Ariz., for all three.

Romney dropped out of the race in February after it became apparent it would be near impossible to topple McCain in the convention delegate race. He endorsed the Arizona senator a week later and pledged to help him win the nomination.

Since then, McCain has praised Romney repeatedly as someone who is certain to continue playing a large role in the GOP. Romney, for his part, has suggested that he'd accept a vice presidential slot, though some Republicans privately speculate that he's looking ahead to a possible repeat run in 2012.

Neither man appeared especially fond of the other during the campaign. Romney cast McCain as outside of the GOP's conservative mainstream and a Washington insider who contributed to the problems there. McCain, in turn, argued that Romney's equivocations and reversals on issues indicated a willingness to change his positions to fit his political goals.

Crist, 51, provided a major boost to McCain prior to Florida's Jan. 29 primary with a well-timed endorsement.

Elected governor in 2006, Crist has been seen as a moderate Republican. He has championed efforts to curb climate change, and was praised by former President Clinton for his efforts to restore voting rights of felons who have completed their sentences.

He also pushed for a law that requires a paper trail in state elections, a measure that bans the electronic voting machines his predecessor, Gov. Jeb Bush, sought after the 2000 presidential election. That election ended in a hotly contested recount, which President Bush won by 537 votes.

Jindal, 36, son of Indian immigrants, was elected governor of Louisiana in October 2007. He had served as secretary of the state health department.

Among other guests expected were Sens. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., close confidantes of McCain.

McCain could put Jesus on the ticket and he'd still get his ass kicked in the election.

No one wants more Bush.

Graham is far too conservative.

Romney is far too mormon for the GOP, especially the south.

Jindal is a joke and only mentioned to show republican "diversity."

Lieberman would inspire even more democrats to the polls to vote against McCain.

Christ would help him win Florida, but not much else.

Maybe Jesus is available.

Putting Jesus on the ticker would be redundant. John McCain is Jesus Christ:

Columbus — Georgia Republican Party chairwoman Sue Everhart said Saturday that the party's presumed presidential nominee has a lot in common with Jesus Christ.

"John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross," Everhart said as she began the second day of the state GOP convention. "He never denounced God, either."

Charlie Crist - Great choice, I really like him and for me to say that about a Republican is saying a lot.

Bobby Jindal - No way, racism is McCain's best friend this election, he does not want to do anything to mess that up.

Mitt Romney - I dont like the guy. He will harm McCain in the south.

Joe Lieberman - His pro war stance will hurt McCain, His being a liberal on social issues will hurt McCain. This would be a desperate move that will fail.

Lindsey Graham - Social Conservative, More of the same Bush. His Texas roots will help Obama tie him to the Bush Administration.

sounds like it is romney then! bet it is romney because as vp his religion won't matter that much, then once mccain's 4 year term is done, his vp Romney can run for presidency and Mormonism would not be an issue by that point, if his nose is kept clean of it in the 4 years as vp.... plus he is young and handsome and favored by alot of different people and the others you mentioned have their own unique problems....

then when he runs for presidency, he can have Jebb Bush as his vp.... hahahaha.... and by then, Jebb might be accepted by the people? Of course I am just speculating.... lol

Obviously, you don't know the south .. where Huckabee reigned because of Romney's mormonism.

Without the south the GOP has ZERO chance of winning.

-- Oh wait, the GOP has ZERO chance of winning anyway so maybe McCain will pick Romney as a prop.

yeah, your right....they need a southern guy....probably the florida gvernor....

then why was he and the press silly enough to buy in to romney and liebermann being contenders? bet this is just ''leaked'' to get some news out there about it, to get a feel and the press rolling on their polling regarding them....pretty sly, really!

LMAO... which states will Obama win that Kerry did not?

You keep predicting a landslide.... how is that going to occur?

How will that occur $4/gal plus gas before November ? worse economy, etc ?
And yes I know Obama will not be able to fix it, but change sells, it got your men Reagan and Bush in there.

Yep, he's gay = no chance as VP.

You know what BAC, I bet ya, they are thinking they may not need a southern guy this time, because they have that particular southern voter "locked in" with Obama as the opponent candidate....and maybe, and i say that gingerly because I really am only speculating on this, but maybe this is why those two yanks...Romney and lieberman were on the short list? Or maybe they were trying to appease everyone in the initial intervues? I dunno....be certain of one thing, it will be a well thought out strategy on their end and mccain will not be the one making the final call imo....

* i know that has nothing to do with your response, just easier to get to ya to talk so i hit quote. :)

care
