My first (and last) 13 hour day

1. Capt. says he dislikes working 13 hour days.

2. Low obnoxiously insults him, pretending as if 13 hours of straight work isn't a big deal and should be expected of the average worker. He takes this as a sign of Americans lack of work ethic, and compares to China, where everyone is apparently willing to work 13 hours straight without complaint. This is why China is getting ahead.

3. I points out that the average worker in China only works about 10 minutes more a day than the average American worker, and that by far the hardest working nation in the world is Mexican, which is a shithole.

4. Low counters that I don't know how the world works.

Low: 2 + 2 = 5, therefore America sucks.

Me: 2 + 2 actually = 4

Low: You don't know how the world works, boy.

Me: Nope, it actually is 4.

Low: I can point you to the orchard, but I cannot force you to eat the apples.

Perhaps I did not make myself clear. The LENGTH of the day is not that important. It is the ATTITUDE to work that differs. My point was that Chinese workers (in Hong Kong) will work 12- 14 hour days regularly to succeed if necessary. It is the work ethic NOT the length of the working day.
I am sorry if I didnt make myself clear.
I always assume greater comprehension abilities than actually exist in your little country. My fault.
Once again then for those asleep at the back: Whining about long hours shows an attitude to work that should be questioned. You proudly say it is the American way. Yes, it most certainly is.
That work ethic is why the Hong Kong economy leaves the American economy at the blocks. It is why we have more luxury cars per capita than America, it is why our housing prices are still increasing while yours are sinking (My apartment has risen from HK3.5million to HK4.5 million in just over one year). Its why HK (and Singapore) are the regional hubs for all of Asia.
In short it is why we are more successful than you and, in PRC, it is why they are trying to hold DOWN growth to less than 9%. And you are trying to hold down your growth??
The really silly thing about this is that had you opened your eyes a few years ago (I have no idea how old you are now) you could have come out and made enough in a few years to see you well in the US. But, of course, you would be forced to admit that the US is not the best at everything... and that'd hurt.
I notice that the US, with a 'hard working' population of 300 million has foreign exchange reserves of US$143.0 billion while we, with a population of 7 million (yes, that's right SEVEN million) have FE reserves of US$277 billion. 300 divided by 7 is... er... lots.
So please dont think you are somehow special, because you aren't. Not any more.

There now you know, as I do, that you don't know how the world works.
Now go to bed. You've had a busy day.

US PPP per capita: $47,123
Hong Kong PPP per capita: $45,736

It is why we have more luxury cars per capita than America,

Since your economy is overall worse off, I'd assume that this is simply a sign that you are, incredibly, an even more unequal society than America, meaning that the average person is even worse off.

it is why our housing prices are still increasing while yours are sinking (My apartment has risen from HK3.5million to HK4.5 million in just over one year).

Hong Kong is a city. America is a country. Your space is kind of limited. Rising housing prices is a bad thing, and our prices shouldn't have been rising in the first place.

Its why HK (and Singapore) are the regional hubs for all of Asia.

Yeah, good point, the US isn't economically important on the world stage at all.

In short it is why we are more successful than you

Neither China nor HK are more succesful than the US, even in total terms. On a per capita basis, LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. The people in the worst off shitholes in the US have a better standard of living than the average Chinese person. You're delusional.

and, in PRC, it is why they are trying to hold DOWN growth to less than 9%. And you are trying to hold down your growth??

1. You're growing at 8% a year from a per capita GDP of 8k a year. You're playing catch up. Plenty of shitty prole nations grow at high rates, Paraguay for instance. No high-income economy grows at that rate, besides Singapore. It's not something that's to be expected once you reach this level.
2. The PRC fed you some bullshit about growth rates being lower than expected because they were trying to hold down growth, and you believed them? What a gullible moron.

I hate America, and I hate China even more.

We have the most important and strongest currency in the world, we have little need to hold foreign notes. We could buy a shitload of them if we wanted to, but why would we? Of course your little pathetic island would need to buy tons of our money.

So please dont think you are somehow special, because you aren't. Not any more.

China has a population almost 5 times ours, and we are more powerful. That's pathetic. Simply pathetic. It would be like if the UK were more powerful in total than the US at the current point; we would absolutely be a failure as a society. And China is a failure. The future is not China's heartless fascist capitalism, it is compassionate socialism. And hopefully, that is the direction the US is going in. China is all of the flaws present in the US currently, magnified.

There now you know, as I do, that you don't know how the world works.
Now go to bed. You've had a busy day.

You're a fascist, and a traitor to the human race.

Good God Low, you are starting to sound like a Victorian era millowner! Eh up, there's trouble at t'mill.

And THAT is why American workers are branded as lazy. Almost everyone I know works a 10-12 hour day without OT. That's what you do when you are concientious and a job needs to be done. When I was working I was always first into my office at about 7.15am and always last to leave at about 7pm and that is how I increased the T/O by 8 times in 5 years. When preparing a tender we might work from 7am til midnight.
Come on, at least TRY to make your economy better.

Hey dipshit, american workers are tired of working hard, only to get shafted while the government rips them off from their pay with taking more out in taxes.

If you hate it here then leave the country, we didn't ask you for your bitch ass opinion.
