'Natural Immunity' to COVID-19: Taking Politics Out of Science

You'll notice that the "updates" on PCR tests came out within a week or two of January 20th, 2021.

Likewise new "guidance" on making sure that COVID hospitalizations and deaths actually were the result of the Wu Flu.

The problem is the left has made their minions so stupid they can't read with comprehension

And here I thought you lefties claimed you were all about science.

Nobody is forcing you rightys to take a vaccine. Don't take them. There will be more for people who believe in science. You'll show us.

you completely miss the fucking point. try reading the article, source and dr being interviewed are hardly "righties" can you not have an adult conversation?

Gandhi: Yes, so you're absolutely right about that. Immunity to natural infection is like something we learned on the first day of medical school, this is not mysterious. That's entirely how the immune system works and so we expected that you would get immunity after natural infection. Now we have incredible data on that, which we can talk about. But it is amazing that immunity became politicized to the degree it did, that people went so far as to say, "Don't consider that you're going to get immunity to natural infection," because of this Great Barrington-John Snow debate that came out, and neither one was correct.

There was probably a middle ground where it is accurate that protecting our elderly, and 40% of our deaths in this country were nursing home residents, was the most important thing we could do. It is correct that immunity develops and that it means a lot, and it is also correct that lockdowns have terrible economic effects on the poor and the young. This has been going on for a long time.

exactly, all you people thinking the vaccine and natural immunity means we still have to use social distancing and masks are stupid, St. Fauci is lying to you when he states you should avoid restaurants after being inoculated or have natural immunity like so many front line workers have. As I have suggested, if you have the antibodies you should be at the end of the line for a vaccine, not the front and conduct yourself as if you are vaccinated.

The usual right wing scenario, find some contrarian out there who offers any theory or belief opposite of what the scientific consensus says and use it to create a false paradigm, it is the same strategy they often employ to “argue” against the reality of man made climate change, it is old, obvious, and lame

A reality they always ignore is that Covid on its own would have shut down the economy with much more devastating results than the half million deaths we have already experienced. Do they actually believe Americans would have flocked to bars, restaurants, sporting events, etc knowing there was a virus with no vaccine nor preventive measures spreading rapidly thru the society by social contact?

Monica Gandhi, MD, of the University of California San Francisco, discusses the evidence with MedPage Today editor-in-chief Marty Makary, MD, of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore,

yes, I am using medical science and experts from a medical trade journal that's contrarian to your feel good anti-science position.

perhaps you should read the article before looking so silly.

where is your science countering the good doctor from the university of california, san francisco? And if she was some quack please to explain why the good doctor from john hopkins would have given her the time of day in the esteemed trade journal for medicine.

Interesting. I thought that once Biden was inaugurated (thus foiling your predictions once again lolol), that gas would soar to $4/gallon. Or was it $5/gallon?

You're batting 0.00% here, Sister Stench.

Please take it to the warzone or I will ask your friend to thread ban you.

Yep.

The reality is, for the vast majority of Americans, we wanted to protect both ourselves and our communities by social distancing, avoiding crowds, wearing masks. It's just a handful of idiots who screeched and yelled about hoax and masks=Buchenwald and other anti-science stupid.

As far as natural immunity, coronaviruses have a high mutation rate, as we've been seeing with this one. So if you get the run-of-the-mill COVID and recover, you may or may not be immune to the next variant to come around. In addition, you may harbor that variant w/o ill effects to YOU, but pass it on to others who are susceptible. Herd immunity with this one is going to be difficult to obtain. Most experts agree that we made end up needing to get an annual vax like we do with influenza.

By all means you should get out and Mingle, just do it among your own ilk, some would call it culling the heard.

As, for immunity, no one knows how long it lasts or if it varies from person to person or if immunity to one strain grants immunity to another, but hey make up your own science and run with that. Please don't leave handling your final affairs to others, get a Will set and in place and a Do Not Resuscitate order signed and ready.

Good Luck

You are using two sources, two, and I never questioned their qualifications, but rather that the positions being expressed run opposite of the scientific consensus on herd immunity.

Earlier in the week there was a MD from I believe MIT, very qualified individual, stating herd immunity will be achieved in March, same scenario, he’s been all over the right wing media portrayed as the invalidator of the current scientific thought on when such may be attained

As I said, it is a common strategy used on the right to create a false paradigm
