The BBQ was pretty good.
The ethnic food was, in contrast, inedible. Don't go to an Italian or Chinese restaurant even if you're starving.
The winters were a little milder than here. That was good.
I wanted to blow up the preachers on the radio.
The vast majority of the people with whom I had business dealings were caucasian like myself....
and beyond hope.

The REAL question is,
"Is Middle America any better?"
Not really. Look at Minneapolis, which may as well be Paris compared to towns in Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma.
The real America is the Northeast and the West Coast.
The rest is useful to grow food, perhaps, but intellectually and culturally, a fucking wasteland.
