Dallas fan here. Let me just say that if Dallas would have had Purdy instead of Prescott they’d have scored more than 12 points last Sunday. If you’re really interested, watch the replay. Dak was hitting guys in the shoulder pads, throwing behind them or just outright missing his receivers, giving them virtually no chance to catch the football in pressure situations. Purdy, on the other hand was very accurate. Only our very good defense kept us in the game. Purdy’s got some limitations as far as being young but he’s definitely shown himself to be a very capable NFL quarterback … and he’s young with something to prove. Wouldn’t you want to show up the folks and system that gave you the moniker “Mr. Irrelevant?”
I hope we meet San Francisco next year and Dak out duels Purdy … but I ain’t holdin’ my breath.
Dak was also a very impressive passer coming off the bench for Dallas when he got his first few starts. He was one of the darlings of the NFL his first couple of years.
All of these new Quarterback prodigies today, take huge chances throwing in such tight windows today- through the outstretched hands of the defenders, and even into double coverage. We tend to want them to live by the sword- BUT NOT DIE FROM IT!
They are heroes when they are successful or lucky with it, and they are the devil when they are intercepted or unlucky with it.
Dak's problem in the San Fran playoff game, and a couple of other games this year, was cutting that window size down way too close, as just about every interception he threw was into double coverage situations where he just didn't see the double coverage or underestimated them. It is true, Double coverages are Dak's weakest link! And most of their opposing teams are exploiting it!
He'll learn just as Peyton Manning had to learn- DON'T TAKE THESE CHANCES OR PERCENTAGE SHOTS Unless you have to.
San Fransisco has one of the best Defensive backfields in the business. And I give them much more credit for the interceptions than Dak Prescott just gifting them the ball.
It's OK, because every quarterback I have ever seen come up through the rankings, goes through some period in their career, that threw a series of interceptions, and created some doubt among the fans. Coaches usually just try to keep their confidence up, and insure them better days will come- AND TO TRY NOT TO THROW INTO DOUBLE COVERAGE IF THEY CAN HELP IT! Because the truth is, that is risky business.
Dak will end up being a better quarterback next year, because of this setback he experienced this year, causing his team to loose some of their games as a result of his interceptions.
