No college for white males...

College is wasted on white males.

Wow, young republicans. Which one is the serial murderer?

Yeah with all my french, I still suck balls at speaking it outside an academic setting with natural born french speakers. I can read it as well as I can English though.

I recommend watching foreign television, movies, etc. In your case, French.
I watch a lot of Russian television, movies, even news to maintain and enhance my language skills.
Just the fact of osmosis by hearing native speakers using it can be helpful over the long run.

Apparently, but I am a progressive so I shall still find a way to be disagreeable. Pretentiousness is like an extra chromosome for my lot. We can't escape it no matter how hard we try.

Your attitude is why this country is so divided. Why must you still find a way to be disagreeable when we both basically said the same thing? Do you want another civil war?

Poor little buttercup. Yeah, I just bet the "girls" "screamed" at the melting lil snowflake.

All you big strong men, so afraid of women, so afraid of ppl of color, so afraid of losing the power you've had for centuries. Is this what terrifies you (group you, of course) so?

* Being passed over for promotion because you don't have a vagina?
* Being sexually assaulted if you are out alone after dark?
* Getting slow or no service in a cafe because you're too pale?
* Being told no rentals are available even though the sign at the apartment complex clearly states otherwise?
* Finding out that your coworker -- who you trained and who does the same job as you, only without your seniority -- is making more than you?
* Being ridiculed and bullied because you're the only one of your gender on the on-line gaming platform?
* Being accused of a crime and finding out that your jury doesn't look like you -- they're all women, and at least half are not white?
* Seeing "foreign" and/or women's names on your ballot at your polling place?

Ha! For real.

You just know, anything that starts with a "letter from a friend" salutation is totally fake and made up.

You wouldn't know about them unless you asked. Colleges require a bunch of credits over different fields of study. Humanities.Social Studies were one that I had to have 6 or 9 hours of my 120 hours in IIRC. It isn't like people would ever take the History of Western Civilization if they weren't forced to just to be able to take the history classes they want to take.

I still believe the point of a classic liberal education is to graduate well rounded people. If we are just concerned with training people up with the skill set they need for a specific job we might as well just have trade schools. For all my technical training, I would never succeed without other intangible skills and the breadth of knowledge and experience I was exposed to in college.

I personally believe that the seven liberal arts of the classic western liberal education is the foundation of a capable and well rounded person. In some ways, it is a shame the classic seven liberal arts were split up into the silos of humanities, sciences, and mathematics. I am much more of a Venn diagram person, than a silo person.

That's my story and I am sticking with it!

My Freshman lit class was a condensed version of my high school American Lit class that was mandatory then as well. Not a single thing new in it. Same for intro to biology, same for US history. Western Civ was a more boring version of the first semester of my 9th grade world history class. Your well-rounded precludes people from having discretion to take or not take many of the mandatory classes that often are redundant to their past learning. Care to guess what happens to students who transfer colleges? They are often forced to take freshman english and lit again even if they got A's in it because universities won't transfer those particular credits, so those poor fools are going to have to do a paper on the boring ass Scarlet Letter 3 times in life, because twice just isn't good enough.

Well, everyone has a different experience I guess.

I cannot say I felt like I was learning the same things over and over. That absolutely was not my experience. I actually thought college history classes were light years beyond high school history classes...truthful, penetrating, and compelling in a way high school history wasn't. Just my experience.

Especially among 18-yr-olds who vastly prefer 130-character communications and who never write or use the word "letter." lol
