Glad you aren't in charge of labor law.
In what way? You say because businesses pay for their employees' health care (or part of it) they have a right to not hire smokers due to smokers over time having higher health care costs.
So do diabetics. So do people with heart disease. So do people with HIV. So do overweight people. So do older people. So do people whose kids have cancer. So do people whose spouses have health issues. And on and on and on. Not a false equivalency.
If employers are allowed to discriminate based on health care costs, where does it stop?
Diabetes is obesity related at least
Certin types of diabetes, but not all. Certain cancers could also be avoided with a healthy lifestyle. One could argue that HIV could be avoided as well.
Innocent people have contracted aids.
Um, everyone who contracts AIDS is "innocent". It's not a crime to have sex with another person (well, not in the US); not a crime to get a transfusion; and while sharing needles is done while taking drugs which is a crime, I still don't think they are necessarily guilty; we should have enough needle give-away programs so addicts don't have to share needles. Drug addiction is a sickness, not a crime.
I guess MAYBE if someone got AIDS while raping someone else, that might be a crime; but that's pretty unlikely to happen.
I guess you can misinterpret anything if you try hard enough. If you must know, I was referring to the wives of drug addicts.
I think if you had any idea how many of my friends died of aids you may not have called me out on this. I didn't consider any of those men guilty either.
