Not hiring smokers?

Sorry - I meant to edit this to say "I'm probably not interpreting what you wrote correctly" or something like that, but got pulled away and didn't come back. You aren't the type to accuse people with HIV of being guilty of anything in the aggregate.

I apologize that I blew the correcting of my post and that it came off so badly.

You're so nice.

I have such mixed feelings on this. I think tekky made some great points many of which I agree with. I really don't like this. But...I've thought about not hiring smokers myself. Not because of health care costs honestly. It's because every smoker we've had always ends up with the same bad habits - taking many many long smoking breaks, and they congregate outside talking to each other, and for some reasons, they all seem to be shit-stirrers.

But I really don't like the idea of this.

Thanks, but you don't have to apologise to me.
I am only looking for accuracy.

Tom, see how easy that is for a person of principle? The new girl apologised because she thought I was offended. She is more of a man than you are.

Smokers are a bunch of self-centered stupid morons. No one should hire them, then they will not be able to afford their stinky cigarettes.

{sarcasm]

All I can say, Darla, Rune (and the others like you) - you sure help balance out the ILA's of this forum! Nice to know people can still disagree without being disagreeable. Thanks for being patient when I screw up instead of jumping all over me!

Definitely fire them then!(grin) I've had co-workers who were smokers who yes, took smoke breaks (and sometimes I'd tag along just to get out of the place) but who were also massively productive.

I just like to keep work and non-work time separated. I could do a very boring story about work & "7 habits of highly effective people" here, but I'll skip it...just will say I've been a long-time advocate of keep work and non-work separate!

(well, except when I post on political forums during the work day...ahem)
