Obama: '10,000 People Died' in Kansas Tornado

RICHMOND, Va. — Barack Obama, caught up in the fervor of a campaign speech Tuesday, drastically overstated the Kansas tornadoes death toll, saying 10,000 had died.

The death toll was 12.

This is really bad since Obama is not a republican like Bush ;)

Yep. The DJ on the radio this morning was talking about this. I hadn't heard about it. He also made reference to the depletion of the National Guard in Kansas because of Iraq and how they didn't have the resources there to handle this disaster because of it. Evidently he quoted some percentages and the DJ said he had his numbers screwed up there too. The response to what happened in Kansas has been, as it usually is, overwhelming. The mindsets of the people is very positive. I love it. Nothing is more dis-heartening than a defeatist attitude by the survivors in times of disaster and I haven't seen it yet in the trip I made up there to haul some supplies or in the people I have talked to who have been there to help.

There are those who will make a political thing out of what Obama said but I am willing to give the man the benefit of the doubt.......but I still won't vote for him.

I hope Obama is not the Demoncratic finalist....
If it is Obama vs McCain I would have to go with Obama...that would suck.
But often elections are like trying to deicde if you want to die of cancer or aids....the lesser of the evils, not that you want either candidate...

FAR too often. I haven't been excited to vote for a president since I got out of high school and voted for Reagan (I know I'll get castigated for this) in 1984.

I have a strong dislike for politicians in general but one area I will give them a modicum of sympathy is when having almost everything you say taped you are bound to make mistakes and say stupid things. Lord knows if I mic on me all day there would be a lot of disgusted people.

:) I did want Carter as pres....

But an honest man can get nothing done in a den of crooks...

OMG...are you serious...you voted for Carter?...Jimmy the peanut farmer! He may be a well intended man...but he should stick to his 'Day'job...sorting peanuts and building low cost housing! He screwed up everything else...Iran ring a bell? Hostage crisis anyone?

Doubtless. Seriously, he's tired he says something like this, then later realizes his mistake. Not so bad as some gaffes I have seen.

Yeah sort of reminds me of Iran contra :)

I heard about this. As a supporter, it was definitely one of those head shaking moments. I'm not quite sure how it was gaffed up that much. I'm sure a speech writer has some 'splain' to do.

Lol...!

C'mon Damo...we agree probably 50/50% of the time on issues...but damn, Obama stretches the numbers way beyond reality...from 12 to 10,000...thats not being tired thats BS! Anyone who would support this 'Immature' and lacking credentials candidate needs some serious schooling...imho!:pke:

clearly there some sort of typo or he just made a huge gaff since he wasn't payng attention. I agree, the numbers are completely off base - they don't sound alike, there's no dislexic (sp?) relation and they aren't even somewhat close, but as Damo, said, there are far worse gaffes. At least he acknowledged his mistake.
