That $3 a month or whatever the tax credit provides is not likely noticed by most people. Especially by those still waiting after a year for the stimulus to actually create jobs.
That said, I do agree with Dung that Obama simply saying the VAT is still on the table is pretty meaningless. It would be political suicide for the Dems to actually try and pass it. It is one of the most regressive taxes they could implement. As much as the Dems try so very hard to shoot themselves in the foot time and again, even they are that friggin stupid.
In my opinion, he is hedging a bit because Volcker suggested it. Anyone else and he probably would have simply said... uh... NO.

I would not suggest that people with opposing viewpoints only get their info from fringe websites; only Tutu, who has made it abundantly clear with dozens of cut & pastes from such sites, and who rarely offers words of his/her own.
Just to add - the fact that proposed taxes are not for those under $250K is just that; a fact. Something like that is either a fact or not a fact; it is not a "viewpoint."
And the fact is, until people under $250K are actually paying more in taxes, he is not breaking an "endless" number of promises on the subject.
