Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

In all sincerity, this diminishes the Nobel Prize.

What did he win it for? .. Speeches?

Quite obviously Obama's win was meant to be a slap in the face of George Bush.

The world awards him for not being George Bush .. which should hardly be a reason to win the Nobel Prize.
 
BS award. As Damo pointed out, the nominations went in very early in his term.

They are rendering the Nobel to be fairly meaningless. Or maybe they feel like they have to go the way of the media, and pick sides...
 
It's only the beginning of change in our country. Other cultures see it more readily becasue we have so many knuckle draggers longing for the Ghestapo mentallity that were the Bush/Nixon years.

Our troops in Afghanistan might as well pack it in and kiss their asses goodbye. Obama will never commit to sending more troops to assist now and we shall soon discover how being in front of the media's bright lights and microphones is really what Obama is all about.

What Damo does not understand is that it can be based on more than just what you did during your "term". It was based on the movement and spirit of cooperation and progress toward world peace that has welled up around Obama's election. It is not so much Obama's award, but an award for a movement that is symoblized by Obama's election.

Its an award in part given to the American people for waking up to the diplomacy of the past and changing it!

If that's the result of this seemingly meaningless win .. then it won't be meaningless at all.

Neither Obama nor anyone with half a brain should be trumpeting sending more troops to Afghanistan.

C'mon brother .. for "the American people" .. who sat on their asses while hundreds of thousands of innocent people were being mass-murdered in a fraudluent war that the entire planet knew was fraudulent?

WE deserve a Nobel Prize for our cowardice?

Obama's "movement" is dwindling and more and more people are starting to realize that this guy is all hat, no substance. He's done absolutely nothing.

That's a real stretch, and not at all what the Nobel should be about.

The award's credibility is on very thin ice with this; I would imagine that it is irrevocably lost for many. This was a dumb, dumb thing to do.

It's not like there is a shortage of potential worthy recipients out there...

The point is that those same Americans who sat on their asses while America was murdering hundrids of thousands of innocent people in a fradulent war turned around and elected Obama! Its one of the biggest and most important peacefull turn arounds in a single government ever.

I agree. First of all at the time he was nominated (February 1st was the deadline for nomination) he hadn't been President for even two weeks.

This diminishes the award, not the President. He may in fact end up deserving such an award (well one with a bit more standards) at or near the end of his term as President, but this is kind of like giving out the Rookie of the Year award after the first three games of a baseball season.

Yeah, but at least Gore had been out working hard on that particular subject for years. Writing books about it as early as the 1980s.

While it was a diminishment of the award to give it to Al, there could at least be some argument for some validity.
