Yep. What did it matter if the ICBM's were in Cuba anyway, when the USSR could just nuke us from there? The US's position was absurd in that battle.

6.Funds spent on the project are pumped into the economy.
7.Military technological advances and research often lead to valuable civilian advances (e.g. the Internet).
8.The missile defense system may discourage terrorist nations from even trying to develop nuclear weapons.
NO
1.The system has little chance of success against a massive scale attack or against a terrorist strike.
2.The towering costs for a system that may never be used would be better spent on fighting poverty, improving education, etc.
3.Spending large amounts of money on these types of projects leads to unwinnable, useless arms races.

Yes, that's the thing. Only an idiot would do this unilaterally without some assurance of reciprocity. I can only assume there is a Russian assurance pending. (although if the Russians continue to play hard to get, how hard is it for Obamas to reinstate Reagan's Star Wars project?)

And Poland is supposed to depend on Russian technology as opposed to US technology? I have been challenged in my thinking on this issue before. I came to see the real use and ideas behind the missiles (see my post nutshell yes/no). Still, I also read how far advanced technologically we are over everyone else. We really do have the best missile defense system.
