Did you read my post? "If you are not sure about your directions, you need information." If you know the person you are calling is often online, they would have access to several mapping websites. I use MapQuest on occasion.
And are you claiming the mapping apps have no flaws or glitches and that their maps are 100% accurate?

Also, the person at the laptop has access to numerous mapping apps, instead of just the one.

Why would you not? The information they access is the same. There is no additional cost involved.
