Ohio Governor

If you think a governor can lose, simply because he made it "easier" to get a drivers liscence, thats fine.

If I was a colorado farmer or rancher, I'd be more concerned with the state and federal governments policies that were destroying my business: unfair trade agreements with respect to china and mexican agricultural products - and corporate pork and regulations that favors mega corporate agri-business over family farms

Gray Davis?

Who gives a shit about colorado, we are talking about OHIO here. Nobody cares about Colorado. Let it stay red.

OHIO.

We should always be talking about Ohio. Ohio, Columbus to be specific, is the center of the universe. Best state in the Union.

surely you jest.

Davis lost because of the electricity blackouts, the economy, and the vague smell of corruption. Not because of driver's lisences.
Once again, oversimplifying the illegal immigration issue won't make it go away or decrease its importance in any way.

That it associates, so far, to everything you listed in this thread seems to show that the people are worrying about your list of important issue and that this governor and the house of this state are ignoring their wishes.

The assumption you take that it is "just licenses" after speaking this long on the subject is only because you think you can dismiss it by belittling the issue. It is ignoring the subject like Bush has with his constituency.... I hope you keep it up. It will make me smile in 2010 and 2008...

Keep it up.... I think you should make it your national platform.

This one even has the "slight scent of corruption" on it, after sneaking the changes in when vetoing the law just days before.

Governor Maria Shriver...uhh, I mean Arnold Schwarzenegger is doing just fine without demonizing hispanics, or blathering on about driver's liscences.

Governor Shriver is talking about education, climate change, economy, transportation infrastructure, and stem cell state research.

He's building a wall, and resides in a solidly Blue State that was not clamoring for him to veto a law that set bad policy...

Like I said, I hope the Ds really try to minimize such an important issue that has far reaching implications in all the issues you listed as "important". Because I just think that is a GREAT idea, especially in Purple States like Colorado. It will really make you winners...!

Make it national platform. It will serve you well.

Driver's liscences is not going to stop illegal immigration. Its a phony wedge issue.

Cracking down on employers of illegal immigrants, is the only realistic solution.

No, you keep attempting to dismiss it, it was just one example of his actions on this issue.

As I said, keep it up... Try to dismiss it as an issue that is unimportant, in fact make it a national party platform plank. Nothing will make you more successful....

I have to admit, this article was pretty much accurate for the reason he's become Governor of Ohio, though they don't give enough explanation. They forgot to mention his opponent was Ken Blackwell, who was Ohio's Secretary of State and pissed a lot of people off too for the whole 2004 election. Strickland was a shoe in even though I voted for Bill Pierce.

The Sherrod Brown - Mike Dewine battle was a little harder to predict but people in Ohio just wanted change and were tired of the same old tired bullshit these politicians tell us. Despite that, I think Voinovich will continue to hold on to his seat for a while even though he is a Republican. The people here like him. I would say that there is an 80% chance that Ohio will go Dem in '08, unless it's Hillary. Then the chances decrease. I know enough Republicans around here that don't normally vote, but would if she had a chance. They really do not like her.

Hmm. That's interesting. That's what concerns me about Hillary were she to get the nomination.

Ease of getting DL's and SS cards are big parts of the illegal immigrant problem.

Well, if you think about it, more people vote for American Idol than for the President of the United States. There are a lot of non-voters out there and the only thing the Republicans will have to do to win with Hilliary in Ohio is throw in a guy who isn't hawkish on the Iraq issue. Unfortunatly, there really is only one guy like that and I don't see the Republicans electing him either. The die-hards vote in the primaries, so the most hawkish will most likely get the Repub nomination. Ohio is very middle of the road right now, so give us a moderate candidate that doesn't polarize. It'll keep a low amount of people coming to vote against you, and that seems to be the way people vote here now-a-days. They vote against candidates, not for them.

"They vote against candidates, not for them."

QFT, Sad but true, I have seen no national level candidates in a long time that I wanted to vote for. It is more like voting whether to die of cancer or aids....

Ohio has R corruption fatigue.

Hiliary is very polarizing and the Bush, Clinton ,Clinton, Bush, Bush, Clinton thing just hurts inside.

Edwards can win Ohio. I agree, that winning Ohio with Hillary is more problematic.

As a fellow Buckeye I have to agree with your analysis. Probably the biggest change for Republicans came in western, rural Ohio, which tends to be a one issue region, where many woke up and decided that abortion wasn't the most important issue around and that the economy and the war in Iraq mattered. Another one is that a significant # of expat Buckeyes, like myself, just couldn't deal with 2004 and we came back home to help make a differance.

Strickland, with his bipartisan approach is a shoe in for re-election and if the Bush administration keeps proving that there a cadre if inept, incompetant and corrupt ideologes.....well Ohio will go blue for sure.......but Dems shouldn't rest on their laurals......Ohio is by nature a moderate state....and are gonna vote for those who provide the best governance.

Hilliary is certainly the most problematic of major Democratic candidate. Personally, though I have nothing against her and think her qualified, I wish she wouldn't run.

She's way to polarizing and we just simply don't need any more of that, even though it's really not her fault and that of the right wing propaganda machine.

Poll after poll, at the national level shows Hilliary losing to one of the three major Republican candidates, where Obama, Gore and Edwards lead nationally against these same Republicans by large margine.

So that's my biggest fear is that Hilliary, like Shrub in 2000, is more popular with the party base, than with the nation as a whole. So even if she does win, it would be by a thin margin, which means more polarized, partisan government.....and I've had it with that shit.....I want a Democratic landslide and Hilliary cannot provide that.
