Pagan Roots? 5 Surprising Facts About Christmas

Except he forgot to post that Christianity is Mithra.

He forgot to post that Christianity is an invented religion taken from many others.

He forgot that Jesus was not born on December 25th .. which was the pagan celebration of the solstice .. who also used evergreen trees.

There is a lot of shit about Christmas and Christianity that he left out.

Surprise, surprise

The fact Jesus wasn't born on the 25th isn't a big deal. When your family takes you out on a Friday for your birthday, that doesn't mean you were born on Friday. That's just when they all get together and celebrate it

I'm a real person with a real birthdate. The biblical Jesus was not a real person.

Therein lies the difference.

Christianity is a belief. There is nothing factual about it.

According to their own bible, Dec 25th is not an approximate date. They used that date because it was an already popular holiday. It was purely a pr move.

Part of why I find this topic of interest is because Christians will often act as if non believers are misappropriating their holiday and have no right to celebrate. Then there are all there stupid slogans, ie, the reason for the season and crap about the war on Christmas.

Christians demand preferential treatment for being a member of a cult whose rituals and beliefs the majority of the members don't even understand.

my lord you are not very bright. show where i said that the birth of christ was borrowed from the pagens.

go on now....do it. and when you don't find it, a simple "i'm sorry" will suffice.

you said that what Christians celebrate was borrowed from the pagans.......the birth of Christ is what we celebrate.....

you said that what Christians celebrate was borrowed from the pagans.......the birth of Christ is what we celebrate.....

you said:

.the birth of Christ is NOT what was borrowed from the pagans

where did i ever say we borrowed the birth of christ from pagens? cite it...i never said what christians celebrate today is all from the pagens, rather, i said quite clearly that the origins of christmas is based on pagen traditions.

again...cite it

nope. did you read the OP? you should study up on the history of christmas. it did not start out as a christian holiday and had nothing to do with the birth of jesus.

Christmas has always been a Christian celebration of Christ's birth.....the pagan holiday you refer to was not known as "Christmas", obviously.........

"Modern" that's the lie in your post. Most of the "commercialized" traditions surrounding the popular celebration of Christmas are not "modern." They are more ancient than the Christian appropriation of the rituals.

Christmas has always been a Christian celebration of Christ's birth.....the pagan holiday you refer to was not known as "Christmas", obviously.........

But, it has not. The word used has little to do with the actual rituals. Christmas is popular because of those things you associate with the pagan holiday.

Tell you what, take your label and affix it to some day in a part of the year closer to the biblical accounts. We will keep the pagan holiday and you can all go to church. Same thing with Easter. But Christians won't do that because they need the association with the the more festive celebrations of others to indoctrinate children into their cult. Bunch of freeloaders.

as you can see, Yurt, String proves my point.....it is not the Christian aspects of Christmas that were copied from the pagans......it was the secular.....if you had said Yuletide instead of Christmas you would have been correct......since you did not, you weren't.......

To Christians he was a real person, which makes the concept of what I'm speaking the same.

To some, Santa Claus is a real person.

Doesn't make him one.

It's a BELIEF. There is nothing factual about ir no matter how much christians want to believe it.

and where did christmas from....yuletide and other rituals, they merely adopted pagen rituals, slapped on some christian stuff, wrapped it up in a nice bow and called it christmas. this way the pagens would not be offended and would not see a big difference in celebrating christmas. to claim that christmas is purely a christian holiday is naive in the extreme.

string actually proves you wrong. here is some more info for you:

C. In the 4th century CE, Christianity imported the Saturnalia festival hoping to take the pagan masses in with it. Christian leaders succeeded in converting to Christianity large numbers of pagans by promising them that they could continue to celebrate the Saturnalia as Christians.[2]

D. The problem was that there was nothing intrinsically Christian about Saturnalia. To remedy this, these Christian leaders named Saturnalia’s concluding day, December 25th, to be Jesus’ birthday.

E. Christians had little success, however, refining the practices of Saturnalia. As Stephen Nissenbaum, professor history at the University of Massachussetts, Amherst, writes, “In return for ensuring massive observance of the anniversary of the Savior’s birth by assigning it to this resonant date, the Church for its part tacitly agreed to allow the holiday to be celebrated more or less the way it had always been.” The earliest Christmas holidays were celebrated by drinking, sexual indulgence, singing naked in the streets (a precursor of modern caroling), etc.

sure there is. there is historical, anecdotal and eye witness evidence.

your comparison to SC falls far short of a true comparison. it isn't even close.

It's quite obvious that by Christmas he meant the popular rituals that the word describes not the word itself. Your criticism of his argument is an example of petty, stupid and childish trolling.

Christians do engage in the pagan rituals. Without them it is unlikely the holiday would be popular at all. Like I said, pick a day closer to the biblical accounts of his birth to hold mass and see how that works out for you. I am sure your kids will love it just as much as the pagan rituals that you all have borrowed.

Sure, who wouldn't believe that "god" impregnated a virgin who had his son who after his death magically zoomed up to Heaven.

:whoa:

Mental Illness???

:)

Critical thinking must be real hard for you.

The biblical Jesus is every bit as made-up and mythical as Saint Nick .. and just as copied.

My politcal views? :whoa:

Were you on vacation on the moon when your side got its ass handed to them ... which I correctly predicted?

Do you not have enough intelligence to know that Jesus and Muhammad were philosophers turned into deities?

Did you miss my qualification of the BIBLICAL Jesus.

You would be calling Thomas Jefferson and many of the Framers idiots .. who also did not believe in the mystical Jesus.

This has got to be among the dumbest things you've ever said.
