Papal front runners. If the Black guy becomes the next pope, white Republicans will scream DEI till their buttholes explode

Matthew 18:18. "Whatever you bind on earth so it will be bound in Heaven." In your normal protestant bible it would be written in red... they take that particular verse to understand that Heaven reflects the changes they make here on Earth. Therefore if the brethren decide that Sunday is the holy day rather than Saturday, then the same choice is made in Heaven.

Of course I think a God that takes attendance and specifies an arbitrary day in a 7 day week is oddly specific. Calendars change. Shoot, when the Gregorian calendar was chosen to replace the Julian calendar we changed when we began a year... Are you sure you have the right "saturday" what if some thousands of years ago someone changed the calendar and Jews have been celebrating Sabbath on what used to be Wednesday, would they all be going to Hell for breaking a Commandment? Do they even believe in Hell?

Calendars change - and there is an entire universe to consider, as well, w/ planets that have years and timeframes that are nothing like earth.

One of many reasons why I take the Bible w/ a grain of salt.

Where do you think your jesus got that from?

Answer- the Torah

The core principle of "do unto others" in the Torah, famously summarized by Hillel the Elder, is: "What is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow.". This negative form of the Golden Rule emphasizes avoiding actions that cause harm or distress, rather than explicitly focusing on positive actions.

Thou shalt not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.
This principle is rooted in the verse from Leviticus 19:18: "Love your neighbor as yourself

No I'm saying Jesus sinned, stop being simplistic. You're like the Pharisees who couldnt see the forest for the trees. You focus on which day is the Sabbath rather than thr point of the sabbath.

The sabbath was made for man not man for the Sabbath. Mark 2:27
Do unto others...shall be the whole of the law.

Do unto others... is the whole of the law.
The phrase "Torah on one foot" refers to the Golden Rule in Judaism, summarized by the Talmudic saying: "That which is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow man". This principle is also known as Hillel's teaching, and is a concise way to express the entirety of the Torah's moral teachings.

Elaboration:
  • The Story:

  • The Talmud tells the story of a gentile who came to Shammai requesting a quickie McConversion to Judaism. He asked to be taught the entire Torah while standing on one foot. Shammai had no patience for the ridiculous and disrespectful request and chased him out of the study hall.

Undaunted, the fellow then proceeded to visit Shammai's colleague, Hillel with the same request. Hillel instructed him, "Whatever is hateful and distasteful to you, do not do to your fellow man. This is the entire Torah, the rest is commentary. Go learn."

The phrase originates from a story in the Talmud (Shabbat 31a) where a gentile challenged Rabbi Hillel and Rabbi Shammai to teach him the entire Torah while standing on one foot. Shammai dismissed the request, but Hillel accepted it, teaching the core principle of not harming others.
That all fits since Jesus of Nazareth was a Hebrew and followed the Torah.

It's specified in Genesis 2:2-3 that the 7th day was a day of rest and reiterated in Exodus;
  • Exodus 20:8-11: "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy."
  • Exodus 31:13-17: "Above all you shall keep my Sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations."
Christians chose to begin on Mondays and end the week on Sundays instead of the traditional Sunday through Saturday because Sunday is the day Jesus rose from his tomb after the Crucifixion. The point is moot since it's still keeping a Sabbath, a day to rest and focus upon God.
However, it is Jesus who told them that what they bind here happens in Heaven. I think Jesus may trump your old testament... They are remembering the Sabbath day, on Sunday.

Interesting. I'd never heard that particular exegesis.

Of course I think a God that takes attendance and specifies an arbitrary day in a 7 day week is oddly specific.

This IS the same God that forbade the mixing of fabrics (Dt 22:11). So, specificity seems to be kind of His thing.

:)

It's just the OT, not mine or anyone else's, but agreed Christians remember the Sabbath on Sunday for the previously mentioned reason.

The subject of this thread is who will be the Pope's successor. You seem frazzled.
Honestly we had Scope Creep on this one. It is well beyond the original scope. That it travelled so far from the original intent tells me that most folks do not care about who becomes Pope. I haven't even seen one of the folks that supposedly might care if he is black on here talking about that.

It was Paul who started the new religion of Christianity and it grew under the sword from Rome via constantine
It was Jesus who was speaking about what happens here also happens in Heaven though... lol. Seriously. I get why Jews would be like, "It's Saturday" but folks who are not Jewish... why do they care when Christians observe this Sabbath Day? A bit like getting upset if they celebrate Easter sometime that isn't the Sunday following Orthodox Passover.

We don't care about your sabbath , non Christians were never required to keep the Jewish Sabbath , What we do mind is over 2000 years of hate and attacks by people who stole our scripture and twisted the meanings along with pogroms. Thankfully Christianity has by and large been defanged and declawed by the enlightenment.
