Pence now showing his "closet racist" tendencies as well.

"The movement calls for abolishing imprisonment and replacing it with restorative/transformative accountability programs." Some of the other things mentioned I'm not necessarily against, but a lot of leftists seem to have this idea that everyone can be redeemed. That's pretty naive.

I can see making certain offenses eligible for "restorative" programs, but certainly not violent offenders.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Apparently this is nothing new. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prison_abolition_movement

As to the violent offenders, I am sure they can make it case by case basis. If they cannot be rehabilitated, then just leave them where they are.

But I think better rehabilitation is a good idea.

What is new is that this idea is becoming mainstream. That's the scary part.

If the theory that higher incarceration is the primary reason crime is down turns out to be correct, then a move toward more rehabilitation will end in disaster.

Granted, lots of well meaning policies have ended in disaster. It seems to be the most common legacy of government.

You could be right. I think it would be on case by case basis. Don't go all in all once and end up in disaster like you said.

From that link: "all prisoners must be given the full and unrestricted right to vote."

I don't know I feel about that. I could go for it if the lesser violent and non-violent offenders work and pay taxes.

Yeah, I support restoring voting rights after serving your time, but voting while in prison? That's some crazy shit. Granted, the EU already does that. It kind of explains some of their electoral results....
