Permanent Government Shutdown

I have never liked Chuck and Nancy, but I am so very thankful for their government shut down. What I really want to see, is for the government to stay shutdown forever. There are more jobs than workers now, so I have no pity on any government workers who will be inconvenienced by having to find other work. Non essential workers are exactly that, non essential. Anybody else thankful to Chuck and Nancy for finally doing something great by shutting down such a waste of money?

It really isn't only "non-essential" people that are affected. Military personnel will not receive pay during the shutdown, but will be required to work as "essential" personnel. While they will receive back pay once it is over, many are already living paycheck to paycheck and can ill survive long hauls where they are not paid. Think of the guys at the border currently... they are also part of the people that will not get paid.

I guess they will be 'reimbursed', what about the civilian workers?

Almost all civilian jobs are still plugging away, the idea that it is "non-essential" personnel that are not getting paid is a bit of a misnomer. TSA employees, for example, are essential and have to work but are not getting paid. There are a bit over 800,000 Federal employees not getting paid at this time, some of them are "non essential", but most are working still just not getting a paycheck for it.

Only those that are furloughed have a threat of not being paid at all for this time. Others who are working without a paycheck now will get paid, but it will happen after the shutdown ends.

Usually furloughed employees wind up getting payed though. It worked that way with both Obama and Clinton.

Congress still gets paid.

Salaries for members of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps are not affected by the latest government shutdown because the Department of Defense had its full fiscal year funding approved last fall.

This week, Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., introduced the “Pay Our Coast Guard Act” to keep paying personnel even during a lapse in appropriations.

The exemption also would cover Coast Guard retired benefits, death gratuities and other related payouts.

Everything will be ok. Chuck and Nancy are doing a great thing by keeping the government shut down.

YES, keep the nothing down.
Hate the people, your government, keep them down and blame them for your limitations in life.

So post Clinton-Reagan.

AOC.

One...it is not Chuck and Nancy's shut down. It is the abomination, Donald Trump's shut down. Give him your thanks if you think it is deserved.

Two..."non-essential" does not mean not-need. The people who empty the garbage and clean toilets at government parks and facilities are "non-essential"...but are needed.

Three...I love when people like you show how simple-minded they are. It helps explain why they continue to support the abomination.

This is an easy fix...why is everyone ok with Democrats hating the President more than loving america? What % is the 5 bill for the wall? The last 24 hours have been worse than ever..when it comes to incivility, incitement, and ignorance....I almost feel sorry for Pelosi and her new sideshow....

Can you tell me why just 12 yrs. ago both supported a fence, but not a wall now? What's the difference? Do they want to secure our borders or not?

Yes I can...and already have...most recently in the other post where we are talking.

Here is what I said:

The dispute over the wall that Trump promised Mexico would build for us...IS NOT ABOUT BORDER SECURITY.

Surely you realize that. Everyone should realize that.

Trump (the guy who was going to unite us) has managed to polarize the electorate as no one before him has been able to do. The base of each faction is saying, "Do not cave...or we will penalize you as you have never been penalized before."

My feelings are that Trump comes out of this bruised more than Pelosi and Schumer...although both sides (and the Republic) will have lots of scars.

Pelosi and Schumer have the advantage of offering legislation that both houses of congress agreed to by large majorities...legislation that Donald Trump said he wanted and would sign.

Then he reneged.

We'll see where it goes.

It seems that a big majority of Americans blame Trump for the shutdown, after all he has taken full responsibility. Keep living in your dreamworld
