Trump (the guy who was going to unite us) has managed to polarize the electorate as no one before him has been able to do. The base of each faction is saying, "Do not cave...or we will penalize you as you have never been penalized before."

My feelings are that Trump comes out of this bruised more than Pelosi and Schumer...although both sides (and the Republic) will have lots of scars.

Pelosi and Schumer have the advantage of offering legislation that both houses of congress agreed to by large majorities...legislation that Donald Trump said he wanted and would sign.

Then he reneged.

We'll see where it goes.

To be honest, I never thought Mexico would pay for a wall when Trump said they would. But his point of securing our borders, I absolutely do, and don't care how it gets done as long as it does. It was a major subject he ran on and apparently Americans agreed with it.
Pelosi and Schumer's hatred of Trump have clouded their judgement (not that their judgement hasn't been clouded on so many other issues before) to the point of penalizing this country. I hope an agreement can be reached soon, the gridlock is not healthy for our country.
 
A fairly standard example of capitalist class-relations. Who cares about a lot of bloody people in comparison with the Fuhrer's inferiority complex and its needs?
 
Never thought I would ever approve of anything coming from Chuck or Nancy, but insisting on the shutdown was the best thing they have ever done. America will learn that we don't need to waste so much tax money, and they will applaud Chuck and Nancy for all this.

There are more jobs than workers now, so I have no pity on any government workers who will be inconvenienced by having to find other work. Non essential workers are exactly that, non essential. Bullshit. The "Let's fund everything except border security" would be followed by "Look at all these illegal immigrants entering the US because Trump won't fund border security". The dems got played on DACA last time by Trump and they are out for vengeance just out of spite. You still did not address RB's question---your democratic leadership used to be for border security and now they are not. It is a game of politics. They don't want to alienate hispanic voters.

YOU obviously do not see this issue the way I do.

should be easy enough to shift funds from some of the non-essential things approved in previous budget funding bills to pay for the salaries in question.......
 
I gather that Trumpf isn't officially paid, but he clearly costs the US vast sums by his incompetence, and as a President is a major waste of space. For god's sake tell the NRA to do its duty, and get a proper government back!
