A prominent civil rights attorney has accused Peter Hegseth, the former Fox News host nominated by Donald Trump as defense secretary, of being "known to be a white supremacist."

Sherrilyn Ifill, former director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, made the remarks during an appearance on MSNBC's All In With Chris Hayes on Thursday while discussing Trump's surprise pick of Hegseth for the key cabinet position, as well as Matt Gaetz for attorney general. Hayes interjected to say that Hegseth would deny being a white supremacist.

Newsweek has contacted Hegseth via Fox News and the Trump campaign for comment via email. Newsweek doesn't have evidence that he is a white supremacist.

The choices from Trump have raised concerns that the president-elect is deciding his next Cabinet based on loyalty rather than experience. Critics argue that Hegseth, who used to host Fox & Friends Weekend on Sundays, has no senior command experience despite serving in the military. Hegseth was commissioned as an infantry officer in the Army National Guard, serving in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as at Guantanamo Bay, according to The Associated Press. He would leave the service with the rank of major.

"This is someone who is known to be a white supremacist, known to be an extremist, whose book is basically about his opposition to the advancement of Black officers to the top brass," Ifill told Hayes.

This is a "good" thing, right? This is what the MAGA movement wanted isn't it? Cuz when you read it it sounds like someone thinks having a potential white nationalist running the military is a "bad" idea. Why would they say that?

We on the Left need to stop calling them Nazis. They aren't Nazis at all. They use the letters "M", "A", "G" and "A". There's only like ONE LETTER in common between NAZI and MAGA. That means they aren't Nazis.

Besides, it's obviously hurtful to them. All they ever call us are kind names like "vermin" and "the enemy within", but nothing as vile as NAZI. I mean whatever did the Nazis do with regards to Mexican immigrants. NOTHING. NOTHING is what they did. So, again, NOT NAZIS.

Oh, so because he rejected radical Leftist ideas being pushed on the military he's suddenly some sort of utter and complete racist hater hum? I'd agree that transgenders shouldn't be in the military. My basis, for starters, that as a group they have a nearly 50% suicide rate. That alone should indicate they are not mentally stable enough for military service.

I mean, the party whose leader told others he admired Hitler, and who uses phrases right out of the Nuremberg Codes and who is fighting to keep the Mexicans from "poisoning our blood", bears NO RESEMBLANCE WHATSOEVER to Nazis.

The letters of MAGA and NAZI are barely even alike. Just one letter.

We on the Left are just mean. That's all we are. We see a group of people whose sole goal is to stop the untermenchen from taking our jobs and to keep our blood "pure" and we try to think of the nastiest word we can find. For lack of anything more scary we default to "Nazi".

He's been on TV for a decade. Listen to what he said and then as Maya Angelou tried to counsel us, believe him.

Is it the fault of a woman's short skirt when she gets raped in an alley? The suicide rate related to trans individuals is more closely related to received discrimination than "mental illness".

No, her skirt length doesn't matter here but your example is little more than a definist fallacy. As for transgender suicide rates, those CANNOT be chalked up to discrimination or repression. People in prison don't commit suicide at anything close to that rate. People in concentration camps didn't, or those in the Gulag. Some of the most clearly repressed and discriminated peoples on this planet don't commit suicide at anything close to nearly 50%.
You are just excusing a mental illness.
