Pope Francis asks forgiveness for priests who sexually abused children

Idiot! The real problem was the monster who raped the child, and ignorant paishioners such as yourself who make excuses instead of demanding consequences. You are more culpable than Rana ever will be.
LMAO so now I'm responsible for the the suicide of her "dear friend". LMAO

The organisation was complicit in shielding the criminals from justice. Unless you mean all involved to be perpetrators of course. Anyone who aided or abetted whould have been handed over for prosecution. But that will involve Vatican people.
You get the wrongdoers no matter how deep it goes. How can anyone, besides a democrat, embrace an organization that's rotten to the core?

It is too little too late, I try to forgive, but I lost a very dear friend to suicide because of the abuse by a priest who got to quietly live out his life. My only satisfaction, he was still alive and was aware of the deaths he caused by his selfish actions.

unfortunately, i doubt that sick frack cared one wit. i cannot believe, nor understand how powerful the catholic church that they can have these perverts remain free from incarceration.

Perhaps if look elsewhere you might actually find some facts to back up your assertions.

Here is a prime example of how misinformed you are. You lump all pedophiles with all homosexuals. Notice you assume that pedophiles are all homosexual. That's patently false and has been debunked by many independent credible studies. Typical right wing nonsense stemming from the refusal to let facts guide them, rather than the twisted interpretations of a book of fairy tales.

He's completely wrong. This article was in the paper a few weeks ago. The man molested both boys and girls.

"Brother Hartman, 74, who has been a Marianist brother since 1958, faces 18 criminal charges, including indecent assault, act of gross indecency and assault dating back to the 1970s and early 1980s, when he was posted at St Paul's College in Melbourne. He is charged with molesting two boys at the college and two girls whose families he had befriended.

"He was a bit of a sadist," one of his accusers said in a statement to Melbourne Magistrates Court this week, according to an Australian Associated Press report. "After more than 30 years I am still suffering. ... My innocence has been taken by a man of God."

The man said if he didn't comply with Brother Hartman's demands, he received a beating -- and did get caned when he told the headmaster what was happening.

Court documents also said Brother Hartman abused a young girl between ages 8 and 11 and offered her 50 cents per photo if she agreed to be photographed nude, according to the Australian Associated Press..

RCC has its issues but "to the core" seems overly harsh. Pope Frank does seem to be doing some much needed whip cracking which is why Im critical over the approach he is using in this matter. Feels like the lawyers got to him and mucked up his mojo.

He is taking concrete steps.

"Some things are worth the wait. At least that is the hope when it comes to Pope Francis’s surprisingly well-rounded new commission appointed to deal with the ongoing priest sex abuse problem in the global Catholic Church. The commission, announced Saturday by the Holy See press office, is made up of four women, one of whom is a victim of sex abuse by a priest, and four men – only three of whom are clerics...

...The more surprising members of the group are the female members. Marie Collins is a married Irish woman who was raped at the age of 13 by a priest. She is an activist for child safety within the Catholic Church and has been vocal about how she was snubbed by her local parish and told to “protect the priest’s good name” when she accused him. Francis also appointed noted French psychologist Catherine Bonnet, who has written extensively about child sex abuse, and Baroness Sheila Hollins from the United Kingdom who is an expert in mental health."

Roman Catholic Church's wealth impossible to calculate

What do we know about the church’s finances?

1 The symbolic value, in euros, of the buildings in Vatican City. The church uses this number to indicate they are priceless and could never be sold. They include: the Apostolic Palace, the pope’s official residence; the Sistine Chapel, best known for murals by Botticelli and Michelangelo, who painted the ceiling and the famous Last Judgment behind the altar; and St. Peter’s Basilica, the largest church in the world erected over the supposed burial site of the apostle St. Peter, the first bishop of Rome.
716,290 The amount of Church-owned land, in square kilometres, across the globe — an area slightly bigger than Alberta. Properties include Vatican embassies, churches, cathedrals, monasteries, some schools and convents.
10 Reported investment (in billions of dollars) in foreign companies by the Institute of Religious Works (the Vatican bank) in the 1990s. It has holdings in such industries as banking, insurance, chemicals, steel, construction and real estate. It only invests in companies that operate according to Catholic morals. For example, it will not invest in a pharmaceutical company that produces birth control.
86 In millions of dollars, Peter’s Pence in 2011. The Vatican’s most important source of ready cash is made up of donations from parishes across the globe. The money is spent on humanitarian projects, including disaster relief, medical aid, and help to the poor in developing nations, children and refugees.
22.4 In millions of dollars, the approximate value of almost one metric tonne of gold owned by the Holy See in 2008.
308 In millions of dollars, the Vatican’s revenue in 2011. It spent $326.4-million, but ended the year with a $27-million surplus.
31 In millions of dollars, the amount seized from the Vatican bank by Italian authorities during an investigation into money laundering.
2 In billions of dollars, the amount paid out as settlements by the church for sex-abuse allegations in the United States.

It is impossible to calculate the wealth of the Roman Catholic Church. In truth, the church itself likely could not answer that question, even if it wished to.
Its investments and spending are kept secret. Its real estate and art have not been properly evaluated, since the church would never sell them.
There is no doubt, however, that between the church’s priceless art, land, gold and investments across the globe, it is one of the wealthiest institutions on Earth.
Since 313 A.D., when Catholicism became the official religion of the Roman Empire, its power has been in near-constant growth.
The church was able to acquire land, most notably the Papal States surrounding Rome, convert pagan temples and claim relics for itself. Over 300 years, it became one of Europe’s largest landowners.
For the next thousand years, tithes and tributes flowed in from all over Europe. Non-Christians and even fellow Christians were killed and their property confiscated. For example, the Fourth Crusade and the sack of Constantinople in the early 13th century brought it gold, money and jewels.
But by the beginning of the 20th century, the church had faced several hundred years of turbulence. Protestantism had claimed many of its members. The French Revolution at the end of the 18th century outlawed the church and though Napoleon allowed it to return, his relationship with various popes was stormy.
Despite this, the church retained great influence in Europe and the Jesuit order focused on missionary work, spreading Catholicism to other countries.
In the 1870s, the Papal States were annexed by the new kingdom of Italy and the pope’s territorial influence dwindled to the Vatican.
In 1929, the Church received compensation for its lost land in an agreement with the fascist regime of Benito Mussolini. Under the Lateran Accords, it was paid about $92-million and, in return, recognized his government.
Investing that money helped fill the Holy See’s coffers, ensuring its financial security.
According to Britain’s Guardian newspaper, the nest egg has grown to at least $655-million.
The Vatican’s portfolio includes property in London, including the building housing Bulgari Jewelers, and apartment buildings in Paris and Switzerland.

I had quoted a post by maineman on here, so that he couldn't go back and edit it.
I then reported his comment and since he's been banned, I've edited out his quote and the link that led back to it.
