Public backs Obama in birth control fight, poll suggests

So what....they can enact any foolish laws they want.....that doesn't make the laws constitutional.......even if it gets the ok from a kangaroo supreme court....they've been horribly wrong before.....

What a deeply religious person sees as a horrific sin is not changed and demanding he help others to commit this "sin", whatever it is, is whats at issue and infringing on his rights........
The bullshit with the insurance co. demands is another matter......

until someone changes the constitution, scotus (which has a majoirty of conservatives) decides the constitutionality of laws

You would have been quite an asset in 1775 for the folks we now call patriots and revolutionaries....

You could have run around yelling, "go home people, that ship has sailed, the King has spoken, its all over".......

I was wondering if this birth control deal might work as kind of a reverse wedge issue. Turn the Rove game back on them. America is very unlikely to elect someone who does not belive in birth control!

Another santorum gaffe:

In Boise, Idaho, on Tuesday, Santorum compared contraception to deodorant and soap when making a point about why he believes birth control should not be covered by health insurers.

"Let's mandate that every insurance policy covers toothpaste. Deodorant. That might be a good idea, right? Have everyone cover deodorant, right? Soap. I mean, where do you stop?"

Really, rick?

Yes, REALLY. It is stupid fucking shit like this that causes overall health care costs to continue to skyrocket. Every time you add to the list of what EVERY plan must cover, you jack up the prices.

This is why we need to go back to individual high deductible plans for most Americans. Enough of the group plans that force everyone to have cookie cutter coverage.

Find ways to insure the low income people, fine. Find ways to insure those that cannot get coverage individually, fine. But stop trying to force everyone into the same model. It is fucking retarded.

It's amazing to listen to some of the religious objections here, they compare this from everything to the Holocaust to the Soviet anihilation of Russian Orthodoxy. It's actually pretty simple, if you're a catholic don't use them, it's like the difference between owning a wood axe, and chopping somebody into tiny pieces. Even better because condoms almost never kill anybody.

It is very simple. Buy your own. If you want to supplement birth control for poor people do it. But quit adding to the list of mandated things that MUST be covered for everyone. It is fucking retarded.

if you do not like what the constitution says or scotus' ruling, change the constitution

we threw out the brits because enough people wanted that

if enough people want the constitution changed then it will be changed

just because birth control is required to be available, no one is forcing anyone to use it

actually, the insurance companies have discovered that when birth control is available at no extra charge, their costs go down (fewer pregnancies to deal with)

oh well

With folks of your mentality, blacks would still be 3/5 human......cause the Supreme Court says so.

the 14th amendment took care of that little issue...enough people wanted the constitution changed and it was changed

oh well

You do understand that if you require the insurance company to pay for something, that the insurance company adjusts EVERYONES insurance premiums? They don't take surveys to say 'are you going to use this option?'. If the costs are spread among everyone, then you are forcing people who object to it to pay for it.

As silly as many of us think it is to be opposed to contraception use, if it is their religious belief, we should not be forcing them to pay for it. Whether they use it directly or not.

In addition, no one is stopping you or anyone else from buying contraception ON YOUR OWN. Why the fuck does this need to be covered for everyone under insurance plans? Subsidize the poor who want it. Leave it up to everyone else to buy their own if they want it.

Bishops are being challenged by liberal Catholics.

Liberal Catholics challenge bishops on Obama's contraception rule

By Dan Gilgoff, CNN.com Religion Editor

Washington (CNN)
– America’s Catholic bishops have criticized the White House’s mandate for insurers to provide free contraception coverage to employees, but plenty of other Catholic groups have endorsed the plan some taking swipes at the bishops in the process.

“The Catholic bishops and their allies in the Republican Party are increasingly isolated,” James Salt, executive director of a liberal group called Catholics United, said in a statement over the weekend supporting the White House’s contraception rule.

“The bishops’ blanket opposition appears to the serve the interests of a political agenda, not the needs of the American people," Salt continued, e-mailing his group’s support for the White House to tens of thousands of Catholics nationwide.

(Continued)

I enourage the liberal laity to fight with the bishops on such matters, because I think the liberal bishops in particular are naive as to just how little in common they actually have with their counterparts. If nothing else, it will be a blow to their egos.

It is logical with respect to low income individuals. It is not for everyone else. Because it assumes that the middle/upper income people won't buy it on their own. Which is quite moronic.

Moronic in that there are more low income people than middle/upper? Is that what you meant?
