I appreciate your comments on this thread. I have been doing some google research, and have seen that blacks have in fact been victims of this comparison far more than other races have been. I think, at least for the moment, that I understand and agree that the comparison of primates to blacks is unique because they have been the target of this comparison more than other races have. My google research shows that blacks do in fact have a slightly closer resemblance to primates than other races, perhaps this is why they have been the target of such an unfair comparison.
I am still trying to wrap my head around why it is ok for lefties to compare Bush or Trump to primates, even if it is only meant as political satire. The pictures that I have posted in this thread do make physical appearance comparisons of primates and the white presidents, which is apparently why so many people have targeted blacks with such comparisons, so there is still an unresolved problem that I am trying to process here.

There's little question in my mind that Trump's coloration (which is not genetic, apparently) does tend to resemble an orangutan's. His hair, also.
Presidents are fair game for comedic insult.
The point is that there is no historical evidence that racists have compared all white people to primates for for more than a century.
Thus, I conclude that there is nothing racist in lampooning the appearance of two individuals since there's no history of mocking an entire race by the same comparison.

I agree with much of this, but it sounds like you are using the length of time that blacks have endured this insult as the primary reason why it is so offensive. From what I have researched so far, it sounds like there is in fact a reason why blacks have been the target of such an unfair slur, which appears to be the slightly closer resemblance to primates than other races. If people have exploited the slightly closer appearance as an unfair way to insult blacks, this is what makes it into a racist slur. I would consider this exploitation of a physical characteristic that is primarily seen in blacks as what would make the slur racist in nature, not the length of time that they have endured it.
The historical use of the comparison for purposes of denigration is exactly what makes it so offensive to many people, I believe. Had the slur been applied rarely I don't think the perception would be as widespread as it is.
I'd like to point out that Asians have also been compared to "monkeys" in a similarly degrading fashion for many years.
For me, it's enough to know that a large number of people find something offensive. If I don't wish to offend members of that group, I try to avoid using terms they find insulting. That's just me, I suppose.
