Iraqi forces gained control of the main hospital in Fallujah on Saturday and were clearing mines after driving the Islamic State group from most of the city, one of its last remaining strongholds in the Anbar province west of Baghdad, a military official said.

Fighting was still underway in parts of the city, where U.S. and Iraqi warplanes targeted snipers and other IS positions, Brig. Gen. Haider al-Obeidi told The Associated Press.

Troops had cautiously advanced toward the hospital, fearing that the militants would use patients as human shields, but when they stormed the facility they found no patients inside, he said, adding that the Iraqi flag has been raised over the building.

The troops later captured the Dubbat neighborhood and are now pushing into the northern neighborhood of Golan and several small areas, he said.

Iraqi special forces swept into Fallujah on Friday, recapturing most of the city after weeks of fighting on its outskirts. Al-Obeidi said Friday that Iraqi troops controlled 80 percent of the city, with IS fighters concentrated in four districts on its northern edge.

better targeting, better equipment..but that's an excellent point. I'm thinking because we have Special Forces on the ground, we'd rather do the air..? But I'm not all up on Iraqi air..I'll have to research it further.

Why are we there at all?

Except the JPP Muslim-haters, who hate ISIS and Islamic terrorists so much that they have all joined the fight in the Middle East...oh, wait.

It's a long story as you well know..at this point it's working..maybe it has something to do with keeping the Iraqi
army from falling apart again(advisors/trainers)...that's a question beyond my paygrade.

Just get it done at this point, and then get the hell out of there (again),and figure out "why" later.

I do know the army wasn't working until we got in again and gave guidance.
Frankly I'm surprised at how well they are doing. Google search:

I oppose official US involvement in the Middle East, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

We simply have no business wasting more blood and treasure on this crusade.

If you want to join the fight in a private capacity, do do.

But not in my name, and not with my government.

crusade is conquest. (re-conquest).
I was anti-war for Iraq and expeditionary forces into Afghanistan when it was driven by neoconservatives.

Normaly I wouldn't want any part of this current Iraq war, except it's counter-terrorism,
and the Iraqi army along with the regional powers are fighting a common enemy in ISIS.

You lost me at "except".

You'll advocate anything if it's labeled "counter-terrorism" as long as it's not you that has to go in harm's way.

counter terrorism is whack a mole. given the right targeting and the success we've had I can't see any other viable strategy unless you want terrorist to have free range

Iraqi military says it has recaptured all of Fallujah and declares the battle for the city to be over.

However, the humanitarian crisis of refugees from the city has only intensified. The Euphrates has in effect become an internal border preventing Sunni Arabs from Anbar from entering the capital district; while aid has been delayed by the government blocking access to Anbar for relief agencies
. Thousands of men, presumably detained by government or militia forces, are still missing. Officials say that thousands of men have been screened and released, but that 7,000 remain in detention and that more than 2,000 have been identified as suspects.

Bush broke the middle east because he failed to keep this country safe

I think he did it on purpose for the excuse to attack sadam
