Recent census reports show CA (a blue state) has the nation's highest poverty rate adjusted for cost-of-living and also one of the states with the highest levels of inequality (with NY, LA, CT).
The poorest, least educated voters in all states are blacks and Hispanics who vote heavily Democratic.
The Republicans agree with you about welfare benefits being used to buy votes--maybe they could work together to get rid of it.

Lefties like jbander don't want to get rid of it. If they did, they could no longer buy votes from the two groups that overwhelmingly use social welfare and vote heavily Democratic.
What's worse, Democrats buying those votes are the recipients believing Democrats actually care about anything other than getting those votes?

Democrats in the House just tried to take the $10,000 limit off state tax deductions. The red states have to subsidize the high tax blue states because they get to deduct those high taxes from their federal income taxes. The 2017 tax cut put a limit on those deductions and Democrats in the House are trying to remove those limits giving the biggest breaks to the wealthiest people who pay the highest state taxes.

Just as there are urban blue dots in Red America, we have brain dead Republicans here in New England. They're universally stupid, immoral, and lacking in hygiene. I would hate to imagine living in a state where these troglodytes are the majority.

The urban dots, as you call them, in Red America are what give the impression that it's the Red parts using the tax money. I provided multiple examples in Red states where the blue areas overwhelmingly are full of freeloaders that regularly drag down people far superior to them. They are primarily majority black areas. Anytime you want those leeches you can have them. I don't have to imagine living in an area where their percentage is very low. I already do and it's a damn wonderful place.
