Reid apologizes for 'no Negro dialect' comment

Not what I said. Segregation was not ever seen as some magic bullet that would solve all racial problems in America... If it had been, we would have certainly tried it! No one in 1948 thought this, and if anyone had such a baseless idea, they certainly didn't have it after 1964! The point is, I don't believe anyone has EVER thought segregation would make us "better off" as the lefties are claiming Lott meant, and they certainly haven't thought that way since passage of Civil Rights. This is an idea that is nearly a century old, and has been put to rest in our society for 45 years, but the liberals seem to think it is prevalent among current republicans holding public office... it's absurd!

are you kidding me? you're claiming that the dixiecrats didn't think segregation would work and be better for america? that NO ONE thought that....

you're teasing me aren't you....

Trent's statement; "we would have been better off" ...How would we have been "better off" with cities being burnt to the ground in riots across America? How would segregation have ever relieved racial tensions in America? Did segregationists niavely believe passage of segregationist policy would magically make all the racial turmoil go away? YOU are teasing ME, aren't you?

White people may have been "better off" but "we" doesn't refer to white people alone, it means ALL of us... Did Trent mean to say "white people would have been better off?" I guess if you can "infer" intent into what he said, he could have just as easily intended that!

if segregationist didn't believe we would be better off...why break from the dem party based primarily on the segregationist platform? why even run on that platform if it wouldn't matter?

lott said "we"...that is a fact. that is why i asked onceler if strom had any other platform that lott could be referring to....so i ask you the same....what was lott referring to?

And Yurt, may I ask what the fuck you problem is? One minute, you are arguing with the pinheads, acting like you have some level of intelligence and common sense, the next minute, you are ripping on ME as if I have said something totally absurd! Can't you make up your mind if you are a flaming liberal or a right-wing conservative? Does it somehow make you feel better about yourself to attack another conservative now and then, so as to maintain your lofty status among the pinheads? You're about one fucking step away from being Beefy, and supporting the retarded Libertarians as if they are our only hope for salvation! How about getting a fucking clue and pulling your head out of your ass! I haven't said a damn thing you should be disagreeing with, but here you are.... I don't get it! Selective Intermittent Retardation?

dixie....i don't care about party lines....you say something that makes no sense, expect to be called and questioned on it. hopefully, unlike onceler, you will not flip out and get all weird on me.

appears to late for that though and its clear you can't handle debate. you get all pissy because someone who leans right questions you? that makes you weak. and in fact you didn't address a single thing i asked or commented on. all you did was bash me for not walking some party line you think exists.

that is hackery.

so i guess obama is not your typical black person

He's a light skinned non negro dialect guy :) I do wonder, now that dems have created "shades of black" as opposed to shades of gray, how many variations there are? And can dark skinned negro's speak in a non-negro dialect as well?

Because it was a populist viewpoint of the time, and most voters are white. It wasn't just Strom who supported segregation, it was widely articulated by a host of politicians in the South AND North during the late 40s and early 50s. No doubt, segregation would have benefited white people, but Trent said "we would be better off" and "we" simply wouldn't have ever been better off with segregation, and no one was foolish enough to ever believe "we" would have. That was my point, and it stands as valid.

Strom Thurmond's 1948 presidential platform was full of mainstream conservative principles, which are still very relevant today in the conservative movement. Limited government, balanced budget, strong defense, etc. It is far more likely these relevant aspects to today's conservative movement, was what Trent Lott was talking about. Not the long-discarded notion of segregationist policy, which was never considered a "remedy" for racial turmoil and problems in America.

See that's the thing though, you don't lean right. You take a strong stand on conservative issues, but then you abandon your post to attack a conservative... like you think that make you cool or something! I can handle debate just fine, when are you going to bring debate? So far, you've just lobbed a blanket disagreement at what I said, and you've not given any real basis for it, nor does it do much for promoting your particular viewpoint. It just confuses people as to what you are!

Read the goddamn post again, Yurt! I did indeed address your question about Thurmond's 1948 platform, it's right there in black and white! You're obviously not too retarded to understand, Thurmond didn't run for president in 1948, solely on segregation and nothing else! This was the very point you were arguing with Onzies, until you decided to turn like a rabid dog on me, and completely contradict your own argument!

It just fucking fascinates me... what the fuck are you? Do you even know from one moment to the next?

you lean so far right you don't know your ass from your head. you haven't addressed my points once. until you do, it is a waste to discuss this further with you.

Reid apologizes for 'no Negro dialect' comment

WASHINGTON – The top Democrat in the U.S. Senate apologized on Saturday for comments he made about Barack Obama's race during the 2008 presidential bid and are quoted in a yet-to-be-released book about the campaign.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada described in private then-Sen. Barack Obama as "light skinned" and "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one." Obama is the nation's first African-American president.

lol

we have two dems who have had to apologize for racial comments about obama, yet the partisan hacks on the dems side keep falsely claiming the republicans are racist and the only ones focused on his race

Whatever happened to "the truth will set you free"?

Reid made the comment that Obama has no negro dialect. There is very much a negro dialect, and everyone knows it. Obama doesn't have one. This is part of the reason he could win the votes of people who would not vote for someone who sounded more ethnic. Its not a huge issue that Reid said it.

Knocking someone down because of their race is wrong.

But trying to pretend there are no cultural, linguistic, or personal differences between races is completely dishonest.

What points? You're all over the board! You argue with Onzies that Trent didn't mean Strom's segregationist policy, then attack me when I make a valid point to support your position! I don't honestly know what the fuck your point is! It's like your point keeps changing and shifting around, depending on who you're talking to, or you are arguing just to hear yourself argue! I can't decide which it is, but you certainly haven't made a consistent point in this thread... you're kind of trying to take both sides of the issue, acting like John McCain a little bit.

lmao

define negro

tell all the other "negroes" that don't have the dialect that they don't speak negro

good lord, you of all people, oh wait, you are from the south and lean left

You're missing the point. The point is that crusty old white guys who use language like this demonstrate how out of touch they are with who they consider their constituents.

Well, heck, I'm all over the board as well. The difference is that I tow a hot chick along with me, so it makes it all good...

you lean so far right you don't know your ass from your head.

Yes I do lean right. I am a die-hard right-wing conservative, and always have been. My points and articulations are consistently in the favor of conservative principles and viewpoints, and I never deviate from them. I'm not ashamed of this, I am proud of it. You may not agree with my views, but one thing is for certain, you know where I stand on the issues, you don't have to guess, and it doesn't matter which way the wind blows or who likes me here, as it seems to matter to you!

One of the things that makes you, 3D and Beefy such prolific posters on this board, is because you guys don't speak with the typical negro dialect, and you have lighter colored skin. If not for that, you would both be considered totally irrelevant idiots here. I think it's great that you've learned how to talk like white folks and are able to post in a somewhat intellectual way, as opposed to speaking like a more ignorant and darker-skinned negro.

I just thought I would interject that compliment in here, since you all seem to be okay with the assertions being made with it.
