Reid apologizes for 'no Negro dialect' comment

translation:

anyone who thinks for themselves is an idiot

:pke:

forbid anyone not be far right on every issue....whats wrong with you

It's not a matter of being "right" or "left" on this, it's a matter of being consistent. Apparently, in your warped little mind, it is more important to appear bipartisan than to be consistent or convicted in principle. Sorry it bothers you so much to support a conservative who made a point to bolster your argument with Onzies, maybe if you bash me a few more times you will feel better about yourself?

wrong as usual

i speak exactly what i believe. if weaklings like you can't handle it, then you might want to stfu. you don't speak for the right dixie. i called you to the floor for your comments alone. apparently you're so insecure you had to bring onceler into this. if you can't stand on your own comments, as i said, stfu.

simple enough

No, you didn't call me on the floor you moron, you contradicted the very point you just made with Onzies, and acted like you didn't understand what I said, even after it was explained to you in full detail. Lotts comment regarding Strom had nothing to do with segregationist views Strom happened to hold in the past, as did most southern politicians in 1948! Lott's comments were more appropriately referring to Strom's conservative values, which are still very relevant today, and which, had they been applied in 1948, would have made us much better off. The lack of logical basis for the charge is apparent to anyone who wants to honestly and objectively evaluate it, and if you don't agree, why the fuck are you trying to argue that very point with Onzies? It makes no sense, unless you are a political dreidel!

This isn't the first time you've suffered from Olympia Snowe Syndrome!

i speak exactly what i believe.

Well your fucking beliefs must be all over the board, because what you are saying is contradicting the very points you've made to the contrary. One minute you think Trent made an innocent statement and didn't infer anything racist by it, the next minute you believe he couldn't have intended it any other way! You've effectively taken BOTH sides of this issue in this very thread! Why? Who the fuck knows? Maybe you don't like the cut of my jib? Maybe you're like John McCain and it just pains you too much to actually agree with a conservative on something? I'm not sure what your fucking problem is, but I would suggest you see a mental health professional, maybe they have a drug for it?

lmao

define negro

tell all the other "negroes" that don't have the dialect that they don't speak negro

good lord, you of all people, oh wait, you are from the south and lean left

Can you tell me, in all honesty, that you cannot speak to someone on the phone for 5 mins and be fairly certain that they are black? I am not saying all blacks fit this description, but enough to make it work.

I am not saying that anyone does or doesn't speak anything. I am saying there is often a distinct accent or dialect that can be recognized.

If you spoke to me on the phone, you would never mistake me for a New Yorker. I don't sound like anyone from Mayberry and I am an intelligent man. But due to where I was raised and the language dialect spoken in my home and neighborhood, I have a southern accent.

Anyone who thinks that my southern accent makes me any less intelligent is not only a bigot, but an idiot as well.

The same goes for the black dialect to which reid was referring.

You're missing the point. The point is that crusty old white guys who use language like this demonstrate how out of touch they are with who they consider their constituents.

Are they chastising him for being out of touch or because he used the out of vogue term "negro"?

One of the things that makes you, 3D and Beefy such prolific posters on this board, is because you guys don't speak with the typical negro dialect, and you have lighter colored skin. If not for that, you would both be considered totally irrelevant idiots here. I think it's great that you've learned how to talk like white folks and are able to post in a somewhat intellectual way, as opposed to speaking like a more ignorant and darker-skinned negro.

I just thought I would interject that compliment in here, since you all seem to be okay with the assertions being made with it.

Since I am a white guy, your "compliments" are ridiculous.

But since you are a fellow southerner, I can put it in terms you will understand better.

Lets say we have two candidates from Alabama that we wish to run for president. One has a very mild southern accent, and the other sounds more like Jeff Foxworthy. Which one do you think would be easier to elect?

It's hard for me to say... I guess it would depend on how many superficial bigoted hypocrites live in Alabama.... those who would cast a vote based on how someone talks rather than what they have to say. I would personally support the candidate who reflected my core conservative views the best, regardless of how they spoke, or even IF they spoke. But alas, everyone is not like me... many people are bigoted and prejudiced, and would base their vote on something as shallow as that.

Unless you have a great deal of experience with the other cultures in our country, the accent presents itself as proof the person is different from you.

Much like a New Yorker's accent does not win him friends in Alabama, the strong black dialect will not win as many friends in the midwest and northeast, especially in demographics that include older americans.

Running a politician for office is all about marketing. We all want one who agrees with our personal views and beliefs. But more and more, the politicians avoid making strong statements about their stances on most subjects. They sell themselves instead of their ideas, beliefs, and plans.

Why else would an adulterous affair have such a disasterous result to a political career when money problems, ethics probes, and civil protests do not.

sometimes, but not all the time....often people from the deep sound all sound the same...white or black....i don't have a preconceived notion of what skin color someone is by their dialect....in california, it just doesn't work....

point out one specific point i am contradictory on....

just one

because the above example is a lie. i said i didn't know, hence my questions. either provide proof or apologize for your sorry lies dixie.

I think the underscore above is about the most blatant example of stereotypical prejudice one could ever find. How the hell does someone's 'accent' or 'dialect' PROVE they are different than me? It's a really good example of why racists and bigots hold the views they hold, but seriously, what does it have to do with what someone believes, what their principles are, or what they have to say on a given topic? It certainly doesn't PROVE they are any different than me in what they think, does it?

FYI, an adulterous affair, ethics probes, money problems, and civil protests are ALL detrimental to ANY political campaign! Yes, politicians DO have to sell themselves, and yes, I am sure their way of speaking has some effect on otherwise bigoted prejudiced people, but are you trying to say we are ALL prejudiced bigots? I just don't think that is so, and I don't think you've made the case for it.

Politicians are initially judged on trivial things such as dress, accent, ect.

FYI, adulterous affairs will end a political career much faster than ethics probes, money problems, and civil protests.

Clinton will forever be remembered for his getting a blowjob. The other issues fell by the wayside when that one took off. And it took off in a big way even before he denied it.

Clinton is a poor example, he was never charged or admonished for having an extramarital affair with an intern half his age. It was actually his lying under oath to a grand jury, which led to articles of impeachment, contrary to what they told you to believe at the koolaid factory.

1) It is politically incorrect to say it, so STFU already!!
2) The southern accent does make you less intelligent. Sorry.

come on dix....

Yurt vs. Onzies
on the issue of Thurmond's position on segregation:

so strom only ran on that one platform? your fill in the blank is nothing but supposition as lott never actually said those words....would you agree that is true?
you forgot the last part of the post, me thinks because you know i'm right and as usual run instead of answer.... you also did not answer my question....was the the only platform he ran on? i'm trying to figure this stuff out onceler....why can't you answer simple questions? ...so, what makes you think lott was referring only to that one part of his platform?

Yurt vs. Dixie
on the issue of Thurmond's position on segregation:

this makes no sense....so in 1948 no segregationist believed segregation would work because of the 1964 civil rights act
are you kidding me? you're claiming that the dixiecrats didn't think segregation would work and be better for america? that NO ONE thought that....
you're teasing me aren't you.... if segregationist didn't believe we would be better off...why break from the dem party based primarily on the segregationist platform? why even run on that platform if it wouldn't matter?

Now, I am wondering, what is your "official" position on this? You seem to want to take two very different sides. You challenge Onzies to answer the question regarding what other issues may have also been part of Thurmond's platform...( a point I also made.) But then you do an about-face, and seem to want to take exception with the point I make about how it's illogical to conclude Trent Lott was specifically talking about the sole issue of Thurmond's support for segregation. (essentially the same point you just made!)

racist.....

you have completely missed the point......they AREN'T chastising him for using the "out of vogue" term negro.......(interpret "out of vogue" to mean "racist if used by anyone who isn't a Democrat")................this thread seems to have drifted away from the discussion of hypocrisy........
