Good point. In those cases, I vote for the challenger. If there's no challenger, I don't vote for the one running.

Disagreed on outcome. It's election math: If there are 10 voters and they all vote for one candidate, that's 100%. If 6 vote for one and 4 for the other, the winner has 60% of the vote. If 6 vote for the main candidate and 4 sit out the election, that's 100% of the vote.

ALWAYS VOTE. It skews the math.

That only applies if there are only a handful of voters. When there are thousands one vote makes little difference in a county heavily for one party. I vote Libertarian to give them enough votes to qualify for the ballot next election.

One theory about why many Americans don't vote is the cost-benefit model. There are several costs to voting--registering, studying the candidates, going to the poll, etc. But, there are very few benefits since your vote is unlikely to change the outcome.
