Renewable Energy Sets Record in USA

Already it is cheaper to install solar and batteries if one needs even one power pole because of a long driveway.

I was referring to those that want to use green energy from the grid only. I should have been clearer. It costs more per kWH for green energy than conventional. That makes no sense to me. In addition to what I wrote above, they are using existing power lines so the transmission cost should not be increased and they are in fact feeding the grid reducing conventional plants cost. Someone, somewhere is getting a kick back here.

This is where the rubber meets the road with alternatives. If the subsidies are removed, will people pay extra for their energy? That is where one will find out how serious people are about this or not. The pocketbook. That being said, why does alternative energy cost more? There is not reason it should. Less maintenance, no fuel costs, no pollution regulations to adhere too, etc. Nowhere near the cost to operate a conventional power plant. So why the electricity cost more? That is what people need to be asking their politicians. And demanding some changes.

Big Oil?

200 years of history is in my side with regards to alternative forms of energy. As one offs they are fine. As I said, I am 100% off grid at my mountain retreat but it isn't without challenges. If it weren't for hydro I could not rely on solar.

Of course it is, idiot.
Wind generators are no different than any other generators except for the means to drive them.
Blades are made of fiberglass or carbon fiber.
I was referring to rare earths dolt, they are not used in conventional power generation.

The technology exists to equip every household in America with its own windmill but BIG OIL is suppressing it. Don't tell

Unicorn farts could power the entire world for a billion years but BIG OIL kid napped all of the unicorns

Bullshit there is enough shale oil and gas for at least another 100 years and more is being found all the time!

WOW...at least a whole HUNDRED years before we run out?

Way to kick that can down the road so someone ELSE can worry about it.

After all, what's the big deal as long as your lifestyle doesn't have to change.

Wait, if you so called precious wind and solar can provide us with all the available energy we need, why would one's lifestyle have to change?

Isn't the presumption that all of these wonderful "alternatives" will completely REPLACE fossil fuels and be cheaper and our lifestyles won't have to change? Wasn't that the promise?

They will, but it will take a few decades. And it will take at least that long to change our infrastructure accordingly.

But it's weird that you can look at human history and think this is not possible - that what we see now is as far as wind, solar & the rest can go.

Why do conservatives see alternative energy as a "left" thing?

Conservative think tanks and quite a few prominent thinkers on the right are proponents of alternatives. Alternatives have to be part of any strategy to get us off of foreign oil - this is not a partisan issue.

Shut up retard.
All generators use magnets.
Some fucking scientist you are.
You truly are a lunatic, you ought to be thoroughly embarrassed by your ignorance but I doubt you will be. Yes all generators use magnetism to generate electricity but the large generating sets found in power stations use ELECTROMAGNETS not the permanent magnets found in wind turbines. Rare earths like neodymium are used to enhance the magnetic field strength of the wind turbine magnets.

"The large generators used in power stations use electromagnets instead of permanent magnets. Electricity is generated when the electromagnet rotates inside coils of wire. The more turns there are on the coils of the electromagnet, the greater the size of the voltage generated.'

Bullshit your way out of this one buddy!! Didn't you ever do physics or study electrical theory at college?

How many times do you have tell ignorant fuckers like Zippy that gas is a transitional fuel until 4th generation molten salt nuclear reactors are introduced?

You have the domestic gas you need well into the future, the US has so much of it they are exporting it now!

Find one post on here of mine stating that this is a "lefty thing"? You are fucking delusional because that is how you see the world.

If you would pay attention, you would have noticed that I am arguing as much with PMP as I am with anyone else on this thread. But, hey maybe that went unnoticed to you? Or that I have criticized Grind for his buy into this bogus science.

I don't give a shit who spouts bogus science it is bogus science.

If you want to believe in unicorns, then believe in unicorns. You apparently have this belief that technology and science are unending in innovation. Well, the truth is eventually you meet the laws of diminishing returns. No amount of snark about the space program will ignore that fact.

Wind and solar have been around for hundreds of years. They are not new. The problems that they pose from an energy production standpoint cannot be solved with technology. I have provided links highlighting the science. If you want to be stubborn in your position that is fine. Go for it

You definitely see it as a "left" thing. PMP is taking a rare lefty position, which is the only reason you're arguing w/ him.

It's so glaringly dishonest to say that wind & solar have been around for "hundreds of years." They've actually been around since the beginning of the planet. However, we have only been trying to improve efficiencies for both for a few decades at most.

So, you're just wrong on that. We're not at the peak of technology on either yet - not even close.

What a dishonest cunt you are. I don't see the issue as left or right. I think it is a stupid thing to pursue and a waste of resources.

You have been presented with mounds of evidence for why they are inefficient on a grand scale, but you refuse to see it and wish to live in a fantasy world thinking science is going to solve all of our problems because we went to the moon

You have no concept of the amount of energy required to power our lifestyle

You have zero concept of the amount of money and resources to try and make this viable

as I have said on multiple occasions, I am a fan of this technology for individual use and unlike you, I actually use it. But, to replace fossil fuels? Not a chance
