I was referring to those that want to use green energy from the grid only. I should have been clearer. It costs more per kWH for green energy than conventional. That makes no sense to me. In addition to what I wrote above, they are using existing power lines so the transmission cost should not be increased and they are in fact feeding the grid reducing conventional plants cost. Someone, somewhere is getting a kick back here.

200 years of history is in my side with regards to alternative forms of energy. As one offs they are fine. As I said, I am 100% off grid at my mountain retreat but it isn't without challenges. If it weren't for hydro I could not rely on solar.

Yes all generators use magnetism to generate electricity but the large generating sets found in power stations use ELECTROMAGNETS not the permanent magnets found in wind turbines. Rare earths like neodymium are used to enhance the magnetic field strength of the wind turbine magnets.
