Republicans have no answer to this simple chart

Can we go back to when Europe and Japan were still rebuilding from the war and China and India were struggling just to feed their own citizens? We were also on the gold standard then as well. Can we go back to that?

The US has always needed to plan for the other 95% of the world advancing. Instead, we have let our wealthy class cripple our competitiveness for that - our plan now is to rely on the military power to keep our power. It's immoral.

Republicans don't want to "starve" anything. Have you seen the new budget proposals? They are increasing spending $500 billion in new spending over the next two years and suspending the debt ceiling until 2019. That does not include spending for the wall or infrastructure. That destroys those claims Republicans want to cut spending and is turning many conservatives against their party.

You don't understand what starve means. The debt is the tool the Republicans use to force massive cuts in social spending that they can't otherwise pass. That's why every big deficit increase in peacetime has been under a Republican administration.

They keep jacking up military spending - that also cuts the funds available for the people on social spending.

The claim that corporations pay less than 10% of federal income taxes is misleading. Today, most corporate taxes are paid through S-Corporations which is taxed through the individual tax code rather than corporate income tax. The number of those S-Corporations has increased from 10 million to over 30 million while the number of corporations have declined. The business generated by those S-Corporations has increased from $320 billion in 1980 to $1.6 trillion in 2010 which is more total income than C-Corporations. So, most corporate taxes are being taxed through individual rates and does not appear under corporate income taxes.

This was under Nixon.

“From 1969 to 1972,” as the political scientist David Vogel summarizes in one of the best books on the political role of business, “virtually the entire American business community experienced a series of political setbacks without parallel in the postwar period.” In particular, Washington undertook a vast expansion of its regulatory power, introducing tough and extensive restrictions and requirements on business in areas from the environment to occupational safety to consumer protection.[

Yes, the last time democracy worked, and Nixon led the way to business becoming far more politically powerful and reversing all that and ending real democracy leading to the last 30 years leading to plutocracy. You didn't understand the article, a waste.

The only time Nixon is mentioned in the article is to complain about him and the quote I posted above. What did he have to do with businesses coming together?

The article is about the Powell memo - Powell worked for Nixon, wrote the memo for his presidency, and was put on the Supreme Court by Nixon to begin changing the constitution to help increase business power.

The article says there was massive growth in the federal government under LBJ and Nixon and many businesses that weren't previously affected now were and thus they joined together to fight for their rights. It's what happens when government grows as it has

They went far, far beyond anything about 'big government' at the time to radically change the US into an anti-democracy country ruled by the rich.

It was a hostile takeover and blaming things like the creation of Medicare and the EPA for it is evil and unwarranted, like blaming the genocide of Native Americans on an incident Americans were killed.

They are going to make massive cuts in social programs by increasing domestic spending by $60 billion this year and $78 billion next year? The defense increases did not cut any social programs, many of which are entitlements requiring government to spend all the money necessary to pay all those who qualify.

If they are going to make massive cuts to social programs by increasing domestic spending by $138 billion in only two years they are going about it in a strange way. Those who always say Republicans are going to make big cuts in social programs have yet to be correct.

The Mother Jones article on corporate tax rates (hardly a reliable source) shows corporate taxes which is C-Corporations. As my article pointed out most corporations and most corporate income now comes from S-Corporations which are taxed through individual tax rates; so, most corporate taxes are not included under that percentage of taxes paid by corporations. Very misleading.

The only "cuts" the Republicans have ever made is to slow down the growth of certain programs. It plays well to Democratic partisans when people say Republicans are going to end S.S. and Medicare but it's all B.S. Like you said, they cut nothing in this most recent budget. They're just spending like money grows on trees...

You are clearly totally unfamiliar with the concept of what I told you about, Republicans using debt as a weapon against social spending. Read about Grover Norquist and google the topic. And for more info:

Medicare and Medicaid are facing over $1 trillion less funding because of the tax heist for the rich bill that just passed.

You want to talk to me about cuts versus reduced increases, get back to me when the population is 'cut' and medical costs are 'cut'.

Medicare and Medicaid have been on unsustainable paths just like S.S. Congress knows this they just choose not to act. And tax cuts aren't the reason the programs are in the shape they are.

Yep those programs are in trouble, just like our entire medical system. If you paid attention to any presidential debates the last couple decades, doing something about the horrible rising costs of our healthcare and its general poor quality have been argued over and over. If you read any political stories during that time, the alarm about the growing cost of healthcare was front and center. Obama finally got a better system started and the Repubs tore it apart. They sabotaged it and fought it every step. But our overall health care is unsustainable.

The ACA has nothing to do with cost it was about coverage. Our politicians choose not to make any hard choices regarding costs because we don't force them too

They're not, they're easily fixed, but Republicans want to destroy them, not fix them, and tax cuts are a big part of the problem.

The ACA had a lot of cost controls, which is why healthcare cost increased at the lowest rate in 60 years when it went in effect.

That is IF YOU REFUSE to use the cost of INSURANCE as a healthcare cost. Its a contradiction in logic and reason you say its a right for everyone to be insured then you attempt to vacate the actual cost of that forced insurance as a healthcare cost.

No one can deny the entire thing remains an income redistribution scam....forcing the young to redistribute their income to the old in order for more people to say, I AM INSURED....even if that insurance is worthless and expensive. What good is it to have a car if you there is no gas to power it? What good is insurance to the poor when there is a 3k deductible before it can be used and when it is used the quality of the service is worse than the free care they used under Medicade...as not every Physician is forced to accept ACA.....another lie that got swept under the political rug so this SCAM could be implemented.

It is true. They are overwhelming the budget and it's only going to get worse as boomers retire.

Sorry man, saying Republicans want to destroy them is a flat out lie. We can go back to Nixon if you would like as grew the great society as much if not more than LBJ. And republicans in congress have gone along with all liberalizations to entitlements (other than reforming welfare). Republicans have supported Medicare and contributed to it being in the trouble it is

Does anyone remember what the cost of a Physician's visit was before the Politicians got so concerned about our healthcare costs? About 15 bucks. Yet...everyone demands the government cure a problem they caused in the first place? Really?
