Retirement: A third have less than $1,000 put away

With respect, savings rates in the U.S. have been dropping for decades. Depending on your economic beliefs we are a demand driven economy where the consumer needs to spend and savings are not a good thing. Yes, if one's full time job pay's minimum wage they probably aren't going to have much savings. That isn't going to change is the minimum wage is raised to $12 or $15. Plus individuals like that are more likely to put what savings they do have into a savings deposit or maybe a government bond and with the devaluing of our currency and Feds keeping interest rates so low real rates of return are negative so people are actually losing money. A good way to discourage savings.

I don't even know what you're actually saying here. That if people earned more money they wouldn't save more? That it wouldn't matter if they did because interest rates are low at present?

It doesn't ever occur to Liberal dunces why there are people in the world who live paycheck to paycheck or make minimum wage. That's because Liberal dunces have no concept of what personal responsibility is and the consequences of bad choices in life.

Instead, Liberals parrot the dimwitted talking points that their dishonest leaders spoon feed to them in order to fool the gullible dunces to vote for them.

your fuckers crashed the world wide economy twice in one lifetime making more poor people.

when will you ACCEPT your ideas are fucking failures?

They have been tried and then failed.
why do you cling to them?

Of course you can't understand; you're a liberal. Let me get my crayons out and attempt to enlighten you.

What he is saying is that arbitrarily raising the minimum wage will not change the bad habits and poor choices that are the cause of poverty and therefore, not have any effect on people's poverty or status.

Poverty is not a result of outside forces; but rather personal choices and bad behavior which have consequences.

fucking sociopath

ooh really explain why the "failed"?

They are vastly underfunded. The states and municipalities (along with corp pensions) have skirted funding these programs because they don't have enough revenue to actually keep up with the promises they dole out. Add in the fact that they have been grossly mismanaged by the various entities... not to mention they 'project' rates of return that are not reasonable in order to fund them less.

Yeah.

If you put $1000 in the bank for a year at 1% interest, and during the course of the year there occurs 1.6% inflation rate (last year's figure), you've lost money by saving it.

It's not really a "your." While I agree w/ you that a lot of Republican ideas have failed, I think what many on the left have failed to realize is how much excessive spending has played a part.

If, somehow, America had been able to maintain a balanced budget for the past 50 years, there wouldn't be the worries we have about the next crash & retirements & jobs.

so many of you dont even understand what its like to be truly poor.

You just actually think you are better humans than poor people are.

Yoda specifically referenced the minimum wage being too low for people to live on and save. I'm simply saying that if the minimum wage is raised that really isn't going to change. In general if one earns more money yes it gives them a chance to save (more) assuming of course they don't increase their consumption by the amount of their increased income.

And in today's interest rate environment putting money into a savings account isn't really all that desirable.

I have watched people gain money and turn into complete assholes.

Money corrupts people and makes them falsely think they are a higher form for attaining it.

NOT all people are effected that way by money.

Just the shitty ones

Like you asshole who say helping people is BAD
