It's always amazing how they can "hear" the code in "Strict Constitutionalist" but can't in "not necessarily in science", but only if they are lefties.

Seriously, attempting to say that they mean "Yes, we'll teach it as a scientific theory...." When what they said was "Not necessarily as science..." because they are working to appeal to one special group and give reassurance to another at the same time.

Damo, this is the 21st century. It's imperative in the global market, that America have the best science education possible.

If you're comfortable with the GOP playing word games with creation science, and making veiled promises to re-introduce it into schools in some form to their theocon base, then fair enough.

As for me? It freaks me out that creationism is even discussed as a party issue or party platform.

You know, I was just thinking about this business of supposedly how republicans just want to teach creationism in philosophy classes. That somehow, it won't be taught as science, or as a competing theory to evolution.


I wonder then, why republicans commonly say that students should be taught or exposed to "alternative" viewpoints.

"Alternative" implies that it's in contrast to something else. That it is an alternate view, to be contrasted with a competing view or theory.

I wonder what creationism would be an "alternative" too? What is it contrasting with?

My guess, is that it's intended to be taught as an alternative to evolution. I can't imagine what else it would be an "alternative" too. I don't think they're intending to teach it as an "alternative viewpoint" to quadratic equations in algebra, or to shakespeare in English class.

The Democratic Party does not OWN anybody's vote. If they want it, they have to earn it.

Additionally, Gore picked the worst running mate possible. He might as well ran with Bush. Far too many people had to hold their noses to vote for him as it was. Liberman was a ridiculous choice and now everybody knows what many who switched to 3rd parties were telling democrats all along.

Now Lieberman wants us to attack Iran .. in the midst of all the other chaos occuring, that idiot wants to attack Iran .. demonstrating that he's still taking his cues from the neocons and Israel.

Gore talks a nice game now but he was wimpified to the nth degree during the election and didn't properly fight against the fraud in Florida.

The dems were sent back to power to bring the Iraq war to an end and ONCE AGAIN have demonstrated that they're just a bunch nof cowards and believe that those opposed to the war have no where else to go, thus theu own our votes.

The Democrtaic Party not only didn't have the couraghe or imtelligence to take a united stand against the all-too-damn-obvious worst military blunder in American history, they didn't even have the courage to take a stand against fradulent electronic voting. Activists had to do their job for them.

The Democratic Party is a centrist party, not a liberal or progressive party. They do not own liberal voters.

I disagree with you about Gore in Florida. I think he did everything he could do despite pleas for him to give up his fight. The courts decided for him. There wasn't much he could do after that. Now, Kerry in 2004 in Ohio is another story. The third party candidates cared more about the alleged voter fraud then he did and they didn't even stand to win.

well i dont plan on not voting... i will vote, but the person i vote for will not be tied to any major political party, (rpubs, dems, ect) even if it means that i am the only person voting for the person i am voting for. i am sick of the way our politicians treat each other, and above and beyond that how they treat us avg citizins, all we are is just another number too em, not one of even give a shit. i want to give em a reason to care. how? well i havent a clue, besides voting, and educating myself

The reality is that this nation has morphed into a plutocracy where the corporate will has replaced the will of the people.

Even Thomas Jefferson feared this hundreds of years ago and believed that freedom from corporations is a basic human right.

You will find that the minimal moderation on this board actually seems to have the members showing more respect for each other than I have seen on those boards whose moderation is far more strict. WM made the remarks, WM was seriously humbled, WM won't be foolish enough to make them again. All without me holding out the "ban" threat. I prefer members be given the power of self-moderation through the ignore function.

But heck, you can ask LadyT whether she thought I should have stepped in... I think that she will disagree.

I missed the whole damned thing when it happened, which I can't believe, but I did. Tiana doesn't strike me as the type of person who would ask for help, unlike me who is more than happy to bitch up a storm. But, the situation as you describe it was handled fine. The thing that used to drive me nuts about that other board, was that Canadian kid following her around making those outrageous racist remarks. If that were the case, I would ask for something to be done myself, because I really couldn't take that crap and I personally don't think anyone should have to put up with it. And of course on that board, there was no ignore author function, which greatly contributed to the problem.
