Ron Paul Introduces "The Tax Free Tips Act"

My daughter works for a restaurant in NY City and the wait staff there earn six figures which includes tips, but it is still far from poor. Then you must remember those on the other end of the scale. Their establishments don't have the party where the tips for the server is $3,500.

She is being transferred with this company, and will move from NY to Houston.
I am very excited to see what she thinks of Houston. She is thrilled.
She wants to do well at her new position.

My g/f works two jobs. One is a waitressing job, and she won't break $15,000. She makes about $350 a week. Only days she makes good money is weekends. She works 30 hours a week there. She's quitting and going to work for Winking Lizard which should get her more because thats going to be packed. That's just temporary because she is also going to college full-time in the medical field. I watch her daughter for her every night so she can fit that all in her schedule, and day care is about $150 a week for us.

I have a better idea. Lets not tax ANYONES wages for the first 27 to 35k? I am not sure what number makes the most sense as I am a useless lawyer and not a find upstanding economist but my bet is somewhere inside that range is the right number. As for "if the government takes to much they'll get it back" BULLSHIT, you would not let ANY business charge you what they estimate their goods and services were and then return the overage at the end of the year but you think that is ok for your government to do? WHY?!? Why should the government keep MY MONEY when I COULD USE IT to pay my bills on my Bullshit waiters wages? See this is where you libs and I part ways. You don't trust the government to regulate your consentual private adult behavior but you approve of them keeping more money in taxes all year long when it was yours in the first place. The government is NOT here to help you. They are here to justify their overfed government Bureaucracy. They should NOT get to keep money I earned that they took too much of. If we are not going to give all lower income people a break on taxes then I think ALL of us should have to pay their taxes in lump sum at the end of the year. Then maybe when you had to do the long form tax return some of you would see what is really going on at the IRS.

1. They're already poor as shit and deserve a break.

2. They are taxed based on ESTIMATES. That's bullshit.

Hey stupid, there are plenty of people who "deserve a break". Whether or not you make wages from tips isn't any sort of justifiable standard for tax exemption on income. Why should waiters who make 15$ an hour from horny men not have to pay taxes, and the guy who works in the back making 5.85 and hour with children to support have to?

There's a lot of thing waiters are doing. It certainly isn't "Struggling".

And you are showing how ignorant you really are Water... you have no idea... but go ahead and put a blanket statement like that over waiters and waitresses, and continue your verbal diarrhea...

Why don't other low-wage people get tax exemption? Why do you want waitress's to be given special status and favors above the rest of us by the government? Just goes to show how biased and ignorant you are.

I think I'm going to hand over 5000 dollars to my congressman cause I think he's doing a good job. He doesn't even have to report it as taxes now, cus it's a tip. Luck man.

350/30 = $11 an hour

OMGZ she's being abused OMGZ how dare we tax her

I made 300 dollars in 2 weeks working 30 hours a week. Poor waiters.

She should've gone to college. I challenge her to find another college-less job that EASY that pays more than ELEVEN DOLLARS AN HOUR.

I don't see why regular hourly workers all of the sudden don't have to deal with reality, and should have to pay taxes, while tipped workers who make twice as much should be tax exempt? Man, tax exemption great. We should make everyone tax exempt.

Other low wage people DO get tax exemptions. Waitress's are only guaranteed $3.15 an hour, yet everyone else has a higher minimum wage, and you do not know how much every waitress makes in tips, so how do you know whether you are overtaxing them?

Do you not read? I said she IS going to college. I made $11 an hour as an Intern before I even finished a semester of college.

I assure you, every waiter in America makes more than 5.85 and hour tips included. That's why they aren't guaranteed normal minimum wage, because their wages would be crazy for entry-level jobs then, and everyone would want to be a waiter.

So how do you prevent the government from overtaxing them Water? What you are saying is a waiter that makes $100,000 a year should be taxed at the same rate as one who makes $15,000 a year. So if you want them to be put on the same rates as people making a normal wage, you should figure out a way to track their tips. Or you're going to give special privileges to high income waiters, while low-income waiters end up being overtaxed.

What are we trying to do here? Subsidize waiters? Why be so selective?

If you want to help people that are struggling, make ALL wages below the 10-15$ an hour area tax exempt. Just because tips aren't easy to categorize doesn't mean it isn't income. The employer should keep track and tax them, else the employer should be audited.

We go right back to my original statement, people pay CASH, all a waiter has to do is pocket it and say they got a much smaller tip. It's impossible to enforce.
